Maschine+ and Kontakt 7

I just purchased an opened box Maschine+ on eBay and then just found out Kontakt and such can't be used in standalone mode! 😭 Do you guys think it's possible this will change in an update or are people just gonna have to wait for a possible M+MK2 or something? Still gonna see how standalone works for now before I decide on returning it or not and hooking my MK3 back up

What's the things that made you upgrade and keep M+? What do you really like about the M+ that made it an easy upgrade, other than being standalone

IMO, the standalone function is the only reason to look at M+ over a mk3. I mean, sure, it might have different material for the chassis; but it's really just the standalone function as the differentiator.

Kontakt is built in. OK it's not 7 but it's incorrect to say it can't be used.

latest version of Kontakt 6 works, you can load your custom Kontakt 6 patches in standalone (commercial DRM-protected Kontakt Player content is not supported however)

IIRC there was some talk about getting Kontakt 7 also for M+, but no ETA for such an upgrade yet

Only K6 for now, K7 in the future? Maybe... maybe not. There's no ETA.

Please expand and what you mean by: "Kontakt and such can't be used in standalone mode".

Are you talking about not being able to load all NI Kontakt instruments? 3rd Party Kontakt Instruments? Custom ones? If that's the case a future update with K7 support will not fix it, some instruments simply were never designed to run efficiently on an M+; It will never run NI's entire portfolio of instruments/fx.

@D-One, I guess your last sentene answered my question. I was hoping I could run K7 inside of M+ completely independent of my laptop, as I would on my laptop. Guess we have to wait for M+MK2? Trying to figure out if it was worth it for $500 off ebay recently or should I return it and stick with my MK3. Haven't tried it yet. How do you like using it standalone, if you have it?

As most Kontakt libraries use a lot of resources, especially RAM, it will most probably never run on any sort of standalone hardware. It’s simply not intended for such use.

The standalone functionality is how Maschine as groovebox and performance sampler should always have been IMO. It’s also a great standalone sequencer, but lacks all of the more modern features like probability and conditional triggers (as you know from the software).

If you like to work with the Maschine internal synths and effects, and enjoy taking it to the living room or outside on the balcony or a lonely island (preferably with a power bank), you’ll love the experience.

Unfortunately, it’s not 100% standalone as you need the computer for a couple of tasks such as organizing your user library, preparing synth presets with NKS mappings and tagging content.

A standalone playing the whole NI instrument catalog will never happen, not even with an eventual M+ MK2. I get the impression you might be looking for a Kontakt box? That's definitely not what M+ is.

It's the same as an MK3+Computer but slower, with a much more limited selection of instruments/fx, tons of other feature limitations, file management limitations, etc... with the advantage of not needing a laptop attached. If you're in the camp where having a computer around is distracting, or you work with computers all day and don't want to use one to make music then the M+ can be great, otherwise I don't see much point, then again.. I am not it's target audience so my opinion doesn't matter much.

It’s a very powerful and proficient music making instrument! It’s powered with massive, prism, fm8, monark, poly synth, bass synth, drum synths to create your own drums, of course it doesn’t have the top plugins as can be used on a computer, but it has phasis and raum on top of all internal effects that are more than good enough. If one can’t create music on this thing it’s what the user lacks in music making skills rather than what it’ll the unit lacks in features or functions.

The best way how to get some good Kontakt multisampled instruments to Maschine+ across the styles and types is buying more selected NI Expansions, which include Kontakt instruments. You can get all types of Kontakt Scarbee E-pianos, Accoustic and Electric Bass guitar, Accoustic pianos, guitars, B3/Vox/Farfisa type organs, sax, trumpet, violin, flutes, choirs, strings, accordion, middle-east and folk instruments etc. Analog synths (pads, leads, bass, FX) are included in Kontakt 2 library for Maschine (over 220 multisampled sounds). All these sounds are editable via Maschine+ Sound edit pages, add free NI and other vendor effect's units and can be saved as user instruments/group/project direct in Maschine+ without computer version of Maschine and Kontakt.

"NI Expansions, which include Kontakt instruments." is quite the stretch, it might give users the impression expansions came with actual Kontakt instruments, but they do not.

They might come with a few Maschine "Sounds", (usually not many) which are just multi-sample Sampler patches, simplified versions of the original instrument that was sampled to make it, they might came from K instruments or anything else 3rd party or HW-based. I'm only adding this note because this might be confusing to someone like Op who doesn't own an M+ yet.

Apologies for quoting an old post, but would this mean I could save a user patch / kit from Wave Alchemys' Revolution, Drumvolution or Triaz & be able to use it with Maschine+, or would that not work because the patch is made from a commercial product?

( I recently bought a Mk3 & I'm considering switching over to a Plus, so I'm still slowly working out what works and what doesn't )

If Kontakt 6 allows you to save a preset "with samples", then chances are it will also work on Maschine+ standalone
