I cannot for the life of me get my Shure SM7db to hook up to my maschine mk3

What's the problem you're having exactly?

Maschine MK3 won't supply phantom power, so the SM7dB is effectively the same as a SM7B. Make sure you have the preamp switch set to "bypass". It might be that the MK3 preamp doesn't have enough gain as the SM7B signal level is really low.

Dynamic mics don't need phantom power

Please pay attention. As stated, the mic has an onboard preamp. The preamp requires power.

Without the preamp, the mic output could be unsuitably low for the Maschine mic input.

The SM7db needs to be out in bypass mode when connected to a device that does not supply 48v phantom power, per the manual.

A notoriously low signal Mic combined with a standalone with a notoriously low Input Gain and no PP might be a combination from hell.

Get one of those 30$ phantom power boxes to be able to enable the pre-amp ?

Maybe an 'uneducated' question , but could user not just buy NI Komplete Audio interface 2 or 6 (I think that KA 2 and KA 6 has 'Phantom Power') and then use line out to route to Maschine MK3 if not another way ?

KA 1, 2 and 6 all have 48v phantom power.

They do if they have an onboard phantom-powered preamp and you want to use the preamp

Thank you ! I thought so too , but while reading the information on the N.I. site then I couldn't spot the exact place where it said that the KA 1 had Phantom Power so I thought better not suggest KA 1 if not certain !

You could do, but then you're buying another audio interface that you need to connect to the computer. Much easier to use a phantom power box as @D-One suggested. They're cheap on Amazon (this is the UK link)

Yeah , maybe you are right , and the Behringer PS400 referred to by you probably is of a really nice quality. With respect to the KA Audio Interfaces , then I haven't bothered to connect mine yet as I do not have all that I need yet to use as I want , so I don't have the possibility to test , but it is possible that you can power the KA Audio interface from an USB PSU and then use the in and out without it actually being connected to a computer ? I mean I dunno. Personally I like the idea of the Audio Interface because it's a versatile interface. But I also like the idea of the Behringer suggested by you 🙂

    P.S.

I found a rather negative review of the Behringer PS400 over at Thomann , With these highlights , quote (have never used such a device so I have no idea about the validity of the claims , so just sharing !) :

    - Output voltage (unloaded) equals 12V in 12V-mode, but only 31V in 48V-mode, i.e. much too low! A short check of the internal electronic circuits shows a multi-diode trippler, thus limiting the output to 3x the input voltage, i.e. 36V max. It never will/can reach 48V, as claimed!

    - The output voltage STRONGLY depends on microphone current drawing! E.g. in 12V-mode the voltage drops from its unloaded 12.0V to 10.4V (at 5 mA) and 8.5V (at 10mA).

But much more serious in 48V-mode: from 31V (unl.) to 22V (at 0.7 mA) and 12.5V (at 2 mA)! Note that common microphones typ. require 2-5 mA at 48V!

Fazit: at "48V" setting the unit can not be used. Likely many people will be affected by this deficit, without knowing.

I have a Komplete Audio interface 6 and an external power source for my maschine. When I follow Boris on how to use everything in maschine part 3 on how to hook up a microphone to maschine I still get no input..

It's a fair question... But at that point, you might aswell just use one of those interfaces as an external interface for the M+ instead of doing all that interface connected to another interface inception; the interface would need to be connected via USB to the M+ anyway so to use that + audio cables makes no sense... It's redundant.

What the heck? But on the M+ do you have the KA6 selected as the interface or are you using the M+ internal interface?
