Using Kontrol M32's transport controls with other DAW's (for ex. Studio One)

Hello! This is my first post here at NI's forums.

I've just received my Komplete Kontrol M32. What a quality keyboard!

Since I'm moving between different DAW's I need to get the controls (rec, play, rewind etc) to work. At the moment I'm trying to get things working in Studio One 5. The keyboard is found by the DAW, but * I can't use the transport controls at all. * The knobs on the other hand, could be assigned to whatever I want them to.

So - any ideas how to get the transport controls to work? At the moment - they do absolutely nothing, unfortunately. From what I've heard, it should work, but Im not sure how.

Even though the keyboard is found by the DAW, I tried to add a Universal Mackie control, but it didn't work either. I guess that should not be needed?

In the future Im interested to learn more about the Ableton Live, but for the moment I just need to get this to work. Maybe it's much easier, not only with at Ableton, but with other DAW's as well.

Thank you. =)

Ok. I needed to installe Komplete Kontrol to see the DAW option correctly when adding the control surface. BUT - I still cant use the transport keys on the keyboard... Not sure why...

EDIT: It's working. I guess there were not tracks that was configured correctly. =)

SO... KK was the solution (but its kind of a quirk that you need to run that / have that installed as well). I have found not clear info regarding this on the NI pages...

But...happy me! =) Thank you again.

This is a A25 with Studio One 5, but the general idea should be the same.

Add KK DAW and A/M devices in Options in Studio One. Assign the ports like this, but with the M32 ports rather than the A series

    Hello, Mike! @mykejb

Thank you so much for trying to help me out. =)

Unfortunately this did not work. The A/M part was added by default in Studio One, so I tried to add the DAW setting as well. I then received a warning of duplicate inputs (or similar, see screenshot). But I followed thrue. Sadly, I still can't control the transportation with the keys on the keyboard. Not sure whats going on, really...

Do I need to change something on the keyboard itself? (i've not altered anything, and the display says: "Template 1 MIDI Mode".

I found this on Presonus pages:

    "Komplete Kontrol 2.1.4 required"

Is there some update I need for the keyboard, or...? (no update shows up in the Native Access)

Are you connecting the correct MIDI devices? You should see two devices for the M32 one called MIDI and one called DAW. At least I do on the A25 and they're pretty similar. Also, check on the "external devices" page and make sure you've not accidentally loaded something twice as that's easy to do (been there and done it!)

Ok, I will check that again but Im quite sure Theres only one of each (one midi and one daw). Also, Im not sure the controller can work without Komplete (info from that screenshot). I'm not sure I fully understood that this keyboard is a part of a N.I "system". I just wanted a good, small keyboard to use with my DAW's. As it is now, almost nothing is lit up on the keyboard, not even when connected to Studio One.

Without really knowing what it is, I installed "Komplete" via Native Access, and then things lit up on the controller. But do I need to run that in the background to make things work in my DAW's? If so, this turned out to be a bit more complicated than I thought... =/

All I want is to use the keyboard with its controlers and transport buttons - to work in my DAW. It would also be very nice if it could lit up so I could see the buttons...

This is how it looks now. Does it look OK to you? =)

Not sure how I make the keyboards buttons to light up. Any ideas on that?

    Ok. Some more info.

Adding the keyboard works well, but when adding the DAW theres still only Midi to choose from in the input and output. There should be som sort of "-1 option" which I can't see. Therefore I have choosen midi in and out on both the keyboard and DAW options. Not sure why I cant select anything else... =/

@Nifo Sorry to find this thread so long after the issue. There's a dedicated setup procedure for Studio One in this article: How to Integrate Your Kontrol Keyboard with Your DAW

Glad that you finally made it work!
