How do I record live filter changes etc?
How do I record live filter changes etc?
I'd like to know how to record filter changes while playing, as MIDI data. I've tried turning one of the knobs while recording, thus changing the sound, but it isn't included in the recording.

So i downloaded and installed DP and runed it as trial version, you have to add the automation lane beforehand as far as i found out, at least that´s what worked for me.
Click there then a new window opens, there you add what you need and then you can record it, i found no way to automatically add automation lanes for moved parameters, like with other DAWs but maybe you ask in the DP forum, there should be an option like this

I was able to record automation data this way, but when playing back the recording the "Buggy" parameter on KK didn't change with the playback, it stayed at zero. Does this work on your end?
Edit: Maybe I need to add a MIDI track for each instrument and not use the "direct" setting with just an instance with Komplete Kontrol...
No, the thing is to disable the record button for the track(s). If the track is record-enabled, playback will not reflect the recorded automation.

Hello,
that depends on your DAW, normally you record it as midi with your notes or each one in a cycle so you add stuff together, or you record it as audio. You would have to look into the manual of your DAW, or tell us what DAW do you use.

I'm using Digital Performer. This one is not fully compatible with transport controls etc of the S88 MK2. But I don't know if that is required?

Normally it should also work if you enable write or record with the mouse, so transport controls should not be an issue. It should work if you add it as mackie control. Maybe here under "automating plugins" you'll find something useful:

Have you simply tried to enable automation read and write as shown in the article I posted above.

I just tried. Here's a short video.

Thanks Uwe!
I'll check it out later. I have no recollection of the need for automation lanes though. From what I remember it's just a convenient way of displaying automation data. But it was quite a while ago since I did these kind of things so I can't say for sure.
Just below the automation record button in the mixing window you find a menu which says "Latch". At the bottom of this menu is the automation setup in which you can decide what automation types to record.
I've also just posted a tech link to the MOTU Support Team. Maybe they'll point me in the same direction. We'll see.

I forgot to mention, that I only had to add one lane, it then worked for all parameters, also for those without a visible lane.
