Komplete Kontrol 3.0.0 - Is anyone else uninstalling it because it is unusable?

Hi all,

Long-time NI software and hardware user (since 2014). Daily user of Komplete Kontrol. Just installed the update to 3.0.0. This is the first time I have ever considered uninstalling a NI software product. It is literally unusable. I have no other software on this machine that performs this badly. Just clicking a menu dropdown is a chore; there is that much latency between click and response. I can't get Reaktor or another product to load in it properly. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to downgrade?

Kind regards,

Leonard M Reidy

I am simply not installing it in the first place because it is blatantly clear from all the negative reviews (here, there and everywhere) that it is not usable.

I will check back in during Summer 2024 and see how it's going.

Are you on Windows or Mac? M1-Ultra Mac here and I can't feel the pain. Other than being a bit bland on features and – sadly – the occasional audio dropout (something's wrong in the audio engine?), it works pretty much the same as previously, so my personal workflow w/ Logic Pro is hardly affected.

Windows here - but it's not about the pain - it's about fit and finish.

KK3 needs to have everything that K2.9.6 already has - and ideally more - before it's worth a move.

No sense in going backwards just to be current.

I'm running 3.0.2 and haven't decided to fall back to the old version.

If I get struck by a lightning bolt of an idea for a piece of music, I figure I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it. It would only take me 5 minutes to swap my MK3 with my MK1 and regress KK, so it's not like the end of the world to me.

Usable? Meh, it depends on what you need. Right now I'm just goofing around with it and discovering a bunch of instruments I had forgotten that I had! So 3.0.2 is fine for me. But for "production use" in a studio situation? Maybe not yet.

Having said that, I will add that I doubt that it will take until Summer of 2024 for it to be usable. My main reasoning is that Native is pushing out smaller (but more frequent) updates right now. I'm seeing behaviors that point to improvement rather than stagnation, so for now I'll keep it. This will also give me a better feel for NI's true effort on this. Yes, I'm "testing them". I think we all are, lol.

I am optimistic.. there is a very active release pattern for fixes and updates.

2023 has been an exciting turn-around year for NI.. and I think 2024 will continue this new pace and era.

Yep, tested it, hated it, reverted just as fast. I’m trying to be positive but, well, track record isn’t good for listening to users so I hold only the smallest of hope at the moment, there is a little but I’m still waiting for fixes for v2.x that will never happen now….

I’m using both so I don’t need to uninstall it

I see zero benefit in the new version and a countless list of negatives so I couldn't imagine having both on my machine at the moment, just no benefit I see at all.

For me the only benefit is it gives me something to test with, I do all my NKS building in the old version still.

Plus I do mean to get a Series III at some point

Here's the benefit of KK 3.0:

ADDED Support for Kontrol S MK3 controller keyboard

    ADDED Support for HiDPI mode(s)

ADDED Support for host plug-in resizing

    ADDED New Visual Browser

ADDED Support for VST3ParameterInfo, which is displayed on the Kontrol S MK3 keyboard

ADDED Ability for the Play Assist ARP to respond to channel pres

ADDED Support for host plug-in resizing

Not really, KK has always resized the plugin window to fit the hosted plugin size

tbh 'HiDPI mode' seems more of a work in progress, on my 5K Apple Studio Display the fonts are still fuzzy and it doesn't resize

ADDED Ability for the Play Assist ARP to respond to channel pres - that's something I turned off straight away as it stops aftertouch actually working as it is meant to - bad gimmicky idea

KK 3.0 added support for the emerging ability of hosted plugin themselves having multiple resize options.. it is a "Russian Doll" process of eventually having more resizing available in the KK environment.

And Play Assist ARP responding to channel pressure is an OPTION.. perhaps gimmicky to you, but others might find it fun and musically creative.

KK 3.0 is opening up new doors for those intrigued to walk through.

What an elitist way of looking at it - KK3 is for the enlightened few eh?
