You arent being picked on. I found out totally by accident after the fact that my mk1 has been kicked to the curb when Native Access said there was a Komplete Kontrol upgrade available. I thought...'oh good...maybe this will fix the absurdly long loading times'..it didnt..it trashed everything and i had to revert to the old KK software and they dont tell you where to find it... I;m a registered owner of my mk1 keyboard..i have an email address.
This is just one example of many of how little NI cares about their customers.
Oh..now I discovered here by accident that the Komplete Kontrol 'legacy' vs 2.9.4 has an upgrade! hahahaha..they've upgraded a piece of software they just legacied..now i have to find out where to locate this NEW vs 2.9.6 software..but first i want to find out what it does and if it will trash my stuff...anybody ??
I regret every drinking the Native Instruments Kool Aid. There are much better companies out there to deal with...I use lots of guitar VST's..other companies upgrade theirs..make them better...add new features..NI just pumps all kinds of new VST Instruments out there and doesnt think they ever need to make them better..this is a waste of time

Do you mean that I can run KK3 (or Kontakt 7 or whatever) without any NI hardware attached, and I can use my generic MIDI controller to browse presets and turn the 8 knobs?
That would be awesome.

The Korg Keystage is $600 for the 49 keys one and $700 for the 61 keys

A bit pricey compared to SMK3 considering additional features of NI.

You won't get everything the NI keyboards can do obviously but you can still midi learn the knobs and a few other functions, just as you can with KK 2.9

This worked fine for me even back to my AKAI MPK49 days like 5 years ago. Not browsing presets in KK or anything but easy to map knobs and sliders for common controls etc.

Maybe i have to decide if it is the end of time to be a custumer of NI.
To freeze buys, and work with that was is.
Today MK1, yesterday updates in software that does not work with DX 12.5 (?) on older pc. Tomorrow my Maschine Studio is end of time? And then ?
All my Updates of Komplete ultimate, will they work with new hardware ?
No anouncement about nativ access could be able to filter compatibility by hardware listed.
No offer for registerd custumers for changing hardware.
Metapop is dead - lets make tracks to youtube #nativ wake up

They are $150 less than NI and also do big stuff like midi 2 which is the new big thing in midi keyboards...dont think NI is talkin' up Midi 2. The mk3 does have a pretty screen. So does my big desktop monitor. hard pass for me. I;m riding my mk1 until it bites the dust and then going with something progressive like the Korg..Different saddles for different butts as they say

I think NI hasn't said much about MIDI 2 and the new MK3 because it's not quite ready.. but I suspect we'll see some action on this early next year... and btw, I think KORG doesn't quite have the KeyStage ready yet either...
But when they both get there... it might be more of an "on par" feature between the two. And both will be dependent on what developers do adding MIDI 2 capabilities to their products.

I think midi 2 is crucial and NI need to publish an actual roadmap so users can make informed decisions. Their obsession with secrecy is something they have been called out on many times and they promised to address it but they still default to it unfortunately.

Here's a place to start (quote from MIDI Association website)
(Updated June 2023)
Any Device which claims MIDI 2.0 compatibility shall implement either A or B, or both A and B:
A. MIDI-CI* to at least its minimum requirements, including discovery mechanisms, plus any one or more of the following features:
One or more Profiles controllable by MIDI-CI Profile Configuration messages.
Any Property Data exchange by MIDI-CI Property Exchange messages.
Any Process Inquiry exchange by MIDI-CI Process Inquiry messages.
B. The UMP Data Format** to at least its minimum requirements, including discovery mechanisms, plus any one or more of the following features:
MIDI 2.0 Channel Voice Messages as defined by the Universal MIDI Packet (UMP) Format and MIDI 2.0 Protocol.
Jitter Reduction Timestamps as defined by the Universal MIDI Packet (UMP) Format and MIDI 2.0 Protocol.
System Exclusive 8 as defined by the Universal MIDI Packet (UMP) Format and MIDI 2.0 Protocol.
Mixed Data Set as defined by the Universal MIDI Packet (UMP) Format and MIDI 2.0 Protocol.
So NI people here...will the S-MK3 implement A or B, or both A and B?

That's exactly the sort of thing that will convince me to stay with NI. If they actually start informing us where things are going and how can I plan for my own future. We all use a range of other brands products and ease of integration and being able to leverage features in the NI stuff will sell NI stuff.
Take communication seriously which means to take it away from the marketing team, they have the wrong focus and usually a poor understanding of how to maintain long term relationships with techy customers.

I am not surprised at all. MIDI 2.0 is a direct threat to NI's own NKS ecosystem. MIDI 2 allows devices to discover, retrieve and set parameters, preset names and a ton of other functionality. Comparatively, it is also open, standardized, requires no middleware to run (apps or computers), and will likely be both more stable and efficient. The adoption rate will be pretty much universal and will require developers no additional licenses or special implementations.
This explains a lot in regards to the rush of pushing out MK3 and KK in their current state.

If someone reverse engineered the Mk1s you could potentially write a midi 2 software wrapper for them...
