Not really sure as I haven’t seen the grouping in action yet on my S61 mkII either - I had assumed it would only show on a series III

The MK1 works in MIDI mode, right? One solution would be to allow the KK3 software to be controlled by a generic MIDI controller. Any chance of that happening in the future? We would lose the light guides, but at least we could browse for sounds and turn the knobs...

The A-series are fully supported in KK3, in that they still work the same as in KK2.
I'm thinking the same as you, in that I'll stick with KK2 until I get a MK3 board. At that point my MK1 will be relegated to "MIDI controller" and used in dumb mode.

Didn’t we fall in a whole load of nonsense?
A series has no screen and no light guide and only an onscreen browsing capabilities. An mk1 has it all and represent the origin and all the substance of the KK software and gets dropped 🤷. It is like discarding the foundations of a building. There is only one logic here and it is not a good one

I do not understand one thing.... If older NI keyboards run in KK2 mode anyway, why the same could not be for S series MK1?
NI already has the code that has been used in KK2. They can use it in KK3. Maybe that some kind of wrapper would have to be written, but it cannot be that much work....
It is total craziness to abadon 1000+ EUR HW five years after end of sale!!!!!

NI knew this too - it's why they hid it for as long as they could because they feared exactly this response from their customers.
They only announced it (kind of and only to a handful of loyal customers leaving most of us in the dark) a couple of days before they released KK 3.0
They planned it far in advance but they never wanted us to know or have any chance to organise a response.

Those are marketing strategies.
The main one with NI is “keep things secret”

If they are so proud about their Fatar keybed, why it’s not written anywhere which model they mount? And we had to press for an answer, which came only here in the forum where it’s not even that easy to find?
Probably they know exactly that TP/100 is not really the most acclaimed…and a more generic (although pretentious) “Pro-grade Fatar keybed” sounds better.
Specially after keybed of previous versions has been criticized, even because of problems appearing after some time of use (see the grease not being kept because of the choices made in how to build the keys in S88. Maybe they changed the keys structure in the new MK3, but…guess what? They keep it secret…)

Even though NI decided to discontinue the KK of MK1 when they started developing the MK3, why did they tell us that the MK1 would no longer be usable after the announcement of the MK3, right before the discontinuation? If they had told me about it before MK3 was announced, I think it would have sold a little higher. Now it's treated like trash.
The problem is not just that the notification was delayed. The problem is that NI only communicates the facts to some users in English. From now on, please reach out to people all over the world in the languages of the countries in which you normally send email.
NI should also email you notifications of the Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 update.

Welp, this is not an example of a totally "dumb" controller, but KORG is taking a path more akin to my fundamental desire with the new KeyStage.
I'll keep an eye on this product as a comparison to how things evolve over the next year with my S61MK3.
I'm thinking once some additional stuff gets "unlocked" by an early 2024 firmware update, anything that the KORG can do with parameter mapping by means of MIDI 2.0 should also be possible with the S-Series MK3.
So no need to rely entirely on NKS2 for some amount of smart mapping with products that are MIDI 2.0 updated with this capability. I don't think the MIDI 2.0 parameter mapping will be as feature-rich as NKS2, but it still should be super-handy.

For those who recall my previous chant for an iPad being an option as the brains & display of a music-making rig, this KORG KeyStage fits the bill perfectly... even my thought of adding a built-in audio interface for monitoring purposes.
This really allows for a highly-mobile music-making rig!

I stumbled upon this Korg device this morning on YouTube and thought...wow this looks like my 61 keys mk1 keyboard which is how old? and Korg is just launching theirs and NI has abandoned theirs.. Its a nice looking piece of kit I think...doesnt give you a bunch ****** you really dont need..has new features and midi2
