music sounds flat all the time when using traktor 4 pro

I posted an earlier question about my music sounding flat coming out of professional speakers. I wanted to add the following: My sample rate is the same as on my mac so that isn't it. I am using EQ ZISO and filterZ. In my internal mixing mode I have enable auto gain with ozone enabled and a headroom of -3dB. In my external mixing mode I have enable auto gain limiter/boost type ozone enabled with a headroom of none. Could any of this be the problem. It's not the speakers. It is the way music is coming out of my computer.

All of my great drum tracks and a lot of other music sounds flat (this is the only way I can describe it) when I play. I keep turning up the volume to try to get more life out of it but it doesn't work. It's subtle but having a big impact when I play. Has anyone ever had this problem or better yet know what it could be or how to fix it? I really need help. AI has not been helpful so far.

On a Mac, I would always recommend using a sample rate of 48,000 Hz in case you’re still using 41,000 Hz. You should set this both in your Mac’s system settings and within Traktor.

If by "flat" you mean a lack of dynamics, that’s likely due to the Ozone Maximizer. I would only consider using that if you’re working with Stems or Remix Decks only, if at all. I’d suggest opting for a transparent limiter instead, and avoiding specific filter or EQ types. Traktor’s knowledge base notes that these can subtly alter the sound, even when set to their center position (i.e., zero).

Edit: I forgot to mention, that only ZISO Types affects the music

this depends on the exact model of the speakers, the amps and maybe dsp, what if you play a commercial track you know well.

thank you for your in put! In EQ in the mixer there is no option to turn it off. Rather I can use classic, P600,NUO,P800,ZISO…which is what it's on, or xone. I am not sure what you mean by a transparent limiter? Could you explain? Also, There is no option to turn off the filter type either. I can Use xzone or ladder vs. what it's on now which is which is Z. As far as the ozone maximizer again, I can't turn it off. It's either on ozone, classic or transparent. Can you explain a bit more. I am new to these tech aspects. Thank you

Ah, yes, of course. I didn’t mean that you could turn it off completely that’s not possible but rather that you can select a different filter or equalizer type. Personally, I prefer the "transparent" limiter. The Equalizer Type is only important if you're mixing intern an not extern, but I chose always the Xone Filter Type.

When I’m mixing with just two decks, or if I want to listen to a single deck, I set the Headroom to -3dB (if I’m mixing with three decks, I increase that to -6dB, and for four decks, to -9dB). This ensures that the output is sufficiently "loud" without hitting the master output’s limiter. The more you push your signal into the master limiter, the more the dynamics are reduced.

Within the Mixer Layout up in the Global Section you can see that the Limiter is active when the text lights up in orange. That's fine and now you should give it a try.

As long as you aren't clipping the master output now, it’s possible that things have improved and the sound no longer feels "flat" to you, assuming my theory was correct and you had previously lost dynamics because the Ozone Maximizer was pushing everything up.

Edit: I forgot to mention in my first post, that I was refering only to ZISO Filter and Equalizer Types who are affecting the music, all other types should be fine.

Maybe you can share a flat recording of a song? Without any adjustments. Give us the song name so we can compare it with the original record.

Or make a short audio recording in Traktor of the track playing when it sounds flat, showing your channel and master parameters, then upload for review.
