ADMIN is there a iPad scam being emailed out to people? beware :) to good to be true.
Hey everyone,
Thank you for flagging this so quickly, it made a real difference. We apologize for the inconvenience and any concern this caused.
We've investigated and can confirm: these are fake accounts created on our online community to impersonate our forum admin team using misleading usernames. They do not have any actual access or permissions. Our real administrator community accounts are secure, and no admin systems were involved. This was the action of spam bots and we identified/removed the accounts involved.
If you received a DM in our community from one of these, please don't click any links or reply – just report it to us and delete the message. If you already clicked a link or shared any info, please let us know so we can help. Please note that some of your may have received an email notification "You have a new message" if you have it enable in your online community notification settings : https://community.native-instruments.com/profile/preferences
We've banned the forum accounts, banned the IPs, are tightening registration and DM permissions for new community accounts, and are working with our platform provider on further spam prevention.
Thanks again for calling this out and helping us keep the community safe.
Hey @stratman3142 We're really sorry for this. We'll reach out privately shortly.
Thank you , yes this is a known problem , these are definitely scammers , bots making ordinary user accounts used to pretending to be Administrators.
NI are actively fighting the scammers and the account they used should already have been banned…
See message from Jeremy_NI here.
.
Caught me unawares very early this morning and I stupidly clicked on the link and authorised a £2 deliver charge. What a dumbass.
Possibly related that I got an email saying I've subscribed to something called wkflame (Whisk & Flame), and £1 was taken out of my account, and that it will renew after 3 days to $39.99 per month unless I canel my subscription. So I clicked on the lick to unsubsribe and got a unsubscription confirmation.
Should I be worried?
I do not know how you gave them payment information , but from the way that you present it then yes , I would contact my payment provider immediately and have things discussed with them.
After seeing the various posts, I did think perhaps it's best if the links being displayed in the images posted around the forum are edited out, just in case anyone gets curious….
…or just remove the images. We know it happened. We don't need to see pictures.
😮
Saw an email on my phone that "Administrator Ian" sent me a message. I didn't log on from there. Thought it very starnge. That never happened before in 26 years. I haven't posted anything in the community in nearly a dogs age.
On my computer I went to NI site and logged on there. I does show I have a message. However, when I click on it there are no messages. Also when I clicked on it several times, once it came up showing 4 messages, then back to one again. Regardless, no messages. So now I have a "1" hanging out on the letter icon.
What the heck is going on NI?
As mentioned in my previous comment, we banned these fake accounts and all their content was deleted. O
Spoke to my bank and they've got it under control.🙂
Problem solved.
We're glad to hear that!
I received the same email.
Tried flagging it through the support chat, but since that is a very dumb AI bot, I could not get anywhere and finally had to give up.
Why don't you have a way of chatting with a human being if needs be?
Regards
Hello I got the same Message from a private profile, leaving the Print Screen of the message bellow
Yes, and as you can see that account was banned, as well as all the other ones.
Received the email and clicked on it. Please advise.
Ok, but flagging the scam-mail as spam would train my spam algorithm to consider NI-community Mails as spam, right?
