Mapping Plugins with S88 MK3 and Logic Pro

Question

Greets:

I am having some trouble attempting to map third-party plugins in Logic Pro via the DAW integration on my S88 MK3.

I have a plugin pulled up. I then enter Controller Assignments in Learn mode. I tap a parameter on the plugin with my mouse, and move an encoder on the S88. However, the plugin's knob jumps from start to end and vice versa when I am turning the knob. I did a search and read that there is a "jump" option that needs to be changed inside of the Mode/Value area of Controller Assignments, but I see nothing of the kind, when I actually wish to have smooth movement.

I could use some guidance to have that sorted out.

@PoorFellow - Thanks for the reply. I have done a number of variations of the Google search, and the one you shared was actually one of the fist results I have. But Logic does not have a "Jump" option in Controller Assignments.

@timrae_ni - Hey there! I was hoping that if I were to possibly map a plugin via Controller Assignments and then save the preset as the default, that those mappings could be seen by the Kontrol keyboard when loaded. Based on your reply, I guess that isn't the case. I also was thinking that using ControllerAssignments and its Learn option in Logic is risky, because if I need to blast the .cs file, which I lost count on how many times I had to do that, then those mappings are lost.

If I further understand it, there's not an ideal way in Logic to create a custom mapping, save it, and then pull it up again for reuse in other projects with those mapped parameters populating the encoders on the keyboard. I'll have a closer look at Smart Controls and MIDI Templates to see if I can at least get an approximation that I can live with. If you have further insights I welcome it.

I may have misunderstood what you're doing, but afaiu you'd have to put the keyboard in MIDI mode and use a midi template for Midi learn mode to work. It's not compatible with the auto-mapping feature in PLUGIN mode.

In Live, Bitwig, and Cubase they provide a mechanism to customise per plugin which parameters are mapped to the HW. In logic afaik they do not, so your only option is smart controls or midi templates

I am not sure but possibly what you could be looking for could be Shift + Encoder (?)  ,
