How to fix connection troubles between Traktor Pro and Traktor S4 MK3

I have installed in Administrator mode Traktor Pro 4.5 (last version) on my W11 laptop and the Traktor S4 MK3 was immediately recognized but once I've tried to make it work I've noticed that: the Software does what is demanded to do but the Hardware is not working.

To be more specific: the pitch or the volume commands are coordinated between the software and the hardware but not a singl button or command seem to work, I cannot play, sync, loop, or do any other stuff from the Hardware.

NI is not responding to my questions and before to start the recession procedure I'd like to know is there someone in the community who ever experienced the same or able to help me by fixing the issue.

If I did something stupid or naive do not mind to make me know about it, learning is part of the process and I am a beginner.

I've checked out and it doesn't seem the same issue. I do not have troubles with sounds or latency, my issue is more that the hardware (S4MK3) is not commanding the software (TPRO 4.5) while using buttons, keys and similar things like the songs selector, the loop spins, the play or cue keys.

I've written to NI and they gave me the same solution: update, install the latest version, uninstall ASIO. But nothing changed.

I've tried with my Apple computer and the issues remained. I start thinking that it is an hardware issue but I'd love to listen to your advice.

NI sucks for the support by the way, impossible to find anyone really helping.

Go to Preferences→Controller Manager. Select the S4MK3 mapping from the device dropdown at the top. If there are 2 or more S4MK3 mappings listed, delete all but one. Make sure Input/Output (top right) is set to your device. Screenshots Would be helpful.

thanks for your support! As Italian I'd love to buy you more than a coffee if you help to get out of this nightmare.

These are a few screenshots of the preferences and other views. As you can see the In-Port and Out-port are fixed on S4MK3 correctly. Nonetheless nothing works.

I've reinstalled from zero Tpro 4 after NI updated. Nothing changed

Next questions then. :)

Do the S4MK3 LED's light up in sequence when you power the device?
Do the LED's have the correct LED feedback (PLAY is lit brightly when track is playing for example. Screens show track data. Etc.) ?
Does this symbol light up white in the GUI when you move a knob or fader?

Here are my answers:

Yes, the S4MK3 LED's light up in sequence, and this gave so many expectations the first day and so much frustration now :)
Well, yes, there is some dull light, and the colors correspond; however the Play key, as all other keys do, does not affect the software
Yes, it is. Sometimes it is blinking, but most of the time it is lit up

I've tried to install it on my Mac mini, and the same thing happened, so I'm thinking it is not a compatibility issue.

Anything else that I may try?

If that symbol is constantly lit up, your device is constantly sending a signal to your software, which i imagine blocks everything else from added to the processing pipleline. If it blinks, it means your device sometimes sends a singal, sometimes not. When it is NOT lit, you should be able to press a button and have it work.

My guess is that one of your controls is malfunctioning. The easiest to fix cause could be dirt in one of the fader slits. In that case, you should see in the GUI the corresponding software faders jittering about. The most difficult to fix is one of the jogwheels. In that case you would need to send it in for repair. There where a couple of those cases reported in this forum over the years.

You haven't responded to my screen question: If you play a track on deck A, does the left screen show track data and timeline progression of the stripe? Just curious if the other direction (software to hardware) is working properly.

To sum it up, this is most likely (95%) a hardware problem.

So LEDs are working but Input from the buttons is not?

Can you see Play button LED (in hardware) react normally if you click on the Play button in the software?

Do you have other controllers involved in your setup?

This would be easier to troubleshoot if there was a MIDI mode… … …

The problem is exactly that if I click the Play button (or any other button) on the hardware it does nothing on the software.

I do not have any other controller in my setup.

It's blinking to fast sometimes and generally is lit up. Only once happened that the Deck A was apparently on but it was impossible to be controlled, it just worked alone loading, playing, looping, in a non-sense way. Once the software was uninstalled and re-installed clean, I went back to the previous condition.

The machine was unboxed brand new from the seller. If there is any dirt inside it must be from the factory or a damage during the shipping.

I am sorry for this. The screen is counting time but the Jog is not turning. Hoever, if I use the Jog to move the song forward and backward I can. I can even scartch. The mechanical commnds seem to work.

Please test the opposite scenario :) click play in software and observe LED in the hardware :)

This indicates to me that the jogwheel's 'touch' function is permanently being triggered - a manufacturing error. → Send back to NI to let them fix it. Nothing else you can do. It has happened to other user's devices in the past.

I appreciate extremely your support and I've reached the same conclusion now supported by your words.

Do you know how I can get in touch with NI to send the hardware back for reparations? I've already opened two ticktes and they're not so efficiently replying.

How does it cost a coffee? just to know ;)
