Traktor Pro 4 Sound vs. other Devices

Hi everyone,

I'm hearing a consistent difference between original audio files and Traktor Pro 4 playback/recordings.

To my ears, Traktor sounds smoother and more homogenized. Different tracks seem to lose some of their individual character, especially in the bass and highs. As a result, tracks feel more similar to each other and there is less contrast and energy compared to the original files.

What's interesting is that I hear this not only during playback in Traktor, but also in recordings made with Traktor's internal recorder.

I've already ruled out:

Auto Gain (ON/OFF)
Key Lock / Master Tempo
Limiter
Different EQ models
FX and Mixer FX

Setup:

Traktor Pro 4
Reloop Terminal Mix 2
ASIO driver
Mostly 320 kbps MP3s

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows of any settings that could explain it?

Just do the null test.

Play the same track via different applications, don't use any filters or anything. Record both tracks and check what the result will be between them in the Audacity. Of course You align them perfectly, inverse one of the tracks and "mix" both tracks to the to the final result. O doubt' there will be noticeable difference if both tracks will be transparent.

Thanks for the tip! I haven’t quite managed to get the inversion right yet, but what’s already striking are the clear differences in the waveform. The original is at the top and the recording made with Traktor is at the bottom. The recording is a bit quieter, but the shape itself looks different too.

This looks very weird. It shouldn't be this different. 😀 Looks like Ozone Maximizer for me.

I will make few tests this evening when I will be at home.

This is how i run mine mixing externally with the DJM V10, 44100hz, Wav and Flac, Traktor 4.4.1 ,no multi core support, no Traktor keylock or effects, no headroom it has the clearest punchy signal NO distortion at all. After Traktor 4.4.1 the sound was not as good with the same settings??? so I'm staying on 4.4.1., Traktor 4, 2 X1 Mk3s with 2 pattern players routed to separate channels on the V10 and the CDJ 3000s HID is the best setup in the DJ world!!

Here is my test results with the single song recorded from Traktor (no sync, no key lock). This was my settings:

External mixing mode was transparent: no limiter/booster, no autogain;
The recording was made from my Model 1 mixer output that means it is not perfect 1 on 1 record;
Model 1 settings was in default positions (channel EQ and master filter EQ);

Even though the song was recorded from Traktor, out via audio interface into the analog mixer and back from the mixer into audio interface, You can see there is no such radical difference between songs. The waveform shape is same and definitely not inverted. 😁
