Update Resets Settings

I've run into this problem literally every time I've updated the software: I hold my root directory, settings, and library files on an external drive. After update, on first launch, the settings and library gets reset and I have to E-brake the launch with CTRL+ALT+DEL before relaunching and restoring the root directory.

Is there a setting that I can click so that whenever I update I don't have to deal with the auto-replication of files into my hard-drive, and emergency processes to restore the root directory??

I do this after a Traktor update:

Launch Traktor
Do not to import the previous collection
Go to Preferences > File Management
Change the root dir to the previous Traktor x.x.x folder
Restart Traktor
Delete the newly created Traktor x.x.x folder

Of course keep regular backups of your Traktor folder in case anything goes wrong.

I rename the old folder to new version, before starting traktor. But that is just to speed things up, never had a fault with the auto import.

I, too, do this.

Is there no setting that makes it so that I do not have to do this after update, and can just launch without having to manually redirect to my root folder on the external drive?

What @lord-carlos said is probably the fastest way, just change the version number in the Traktor folder name to the new version before launching.

I only do this if it's not a mod-breaking update, as an indicator i guess… ^^
