Issues with ASIO and WASAPI drivers

I have opened a support ticket, but figured I would ask the community in case someone else has had this issue and knows of a solution.

When using the ASIO or WASAPI drivers on some systems, I get extreme "crackling". This is happens with my Traktor Kontrol S4MK3 and my DJ2GO Touch controllers.

The WDM driver for the Traktor Kontrol S4MK3 works fine (DJ2GO only has ASIO).

What is interesting is that they seem to be clear on my Evolve 50s and Bose speakers. Yamaha powered speaker and Peavey XR-AT power amp crackle.

Given that the output should be the same (line level), I cannot for the life of me think of why this would be happening.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have already done all the audio tweaks.

Hello,

first i would always recommend the asio driver if there is one available. So your problem only appears with certain amp/speaker combos? If so have you tried ground lift or a transformer between the audio interface and the pa system and also lift the ground and try. Maybe describing your problem a bit better could help us to help you.

The ASIO driver is the one I generally use, however with these issues it has been problematic.

My problem seems to appear with some amp/powered speakers, yes. I have tried isolation transformers, UPS backups (another for of isolation) and testing on various different electrical networks (venue locations).

As for the problem description, I am not sure how to explain it better.

Bottom line is that the ASIO and WASAPI drivers crackle on some systems. The WDM driver works perfectly every time.

My new problem is that the WDM and WASAPI drivers are all missing now. They were there Friday, today not there

That's a really strange one then, never heard of that, asio drivers can have problems when the buffer size is set to short and all that but different outcomes with different pa systems with crackling noises and you tried all that - simply wow, can't make much sense out of it to be honest. Maybe try to use another audio interface of you can.

This is my issue… it makes no sense. Should be the same line level output to all the pa systems. But no.

At first I thought maybe it was a phono/line issue (one of the PA's does do phono over XLR and line over TLS) but nope.

I get the same thing with my little Numark DJ2GO2 controller, which uses an ASIO driver.

Have you also tried to optimize your laptop for audio and used a tool called dpc latency checker?

This has always happened with me on multiple laptops using Wasapi drivers going back 5+ years

Shared or exclusive mode. It's a mess with Traktor!

I had to buy a Sennheiser bluetooth dongle and run it with ASIO4ALL just to be able to mess around with a mouse to try blends on the way to a gig

Ok. It's getting stranger. I needed to check som tracks so I hooked my small DJ2GO controller (ASIO exclusive) to me small bose Bluetooth speaker (to the aux port)

Crackling.

Switched to shared, no crackle.

Back to exclusive, no crackle.

This makes no sense at all

the shared driver can have issues with the sampling frequency, exclusive should set it to what traktor needs, shared maybe has a different setting. Have you checked in both cases what the windows audio settings shows for the output device in both cases and what you see in ttaktor audio settings.
