Black rectangle over screen when moving mouse on UI, external monitor only

Not sure when this started, must have been fairly recently. When i open guitar rig 6, I get a huge black rectangle across my whole screen. Full width of my screen, but only the height of the plugin window. If i don't move my mouse over the plugin window, it goes away and i can see the normal guitar rig screen. But as soon as my mouse moves into the bounds of the plugin window, the black rectangle shows up again.

If i open my macbook pro (m1 max) so Logic Pro (11.2.2) moves to my laptop screen, this issue does not happen.

This is MADDENING. Any thoughts? Honestly about to buy Helix Native and forget about Guitar rig lol

This post references Windows - but I will bet money that your resolution is not standard.

And/Or - as Poorfellow correctly states - GR6 predates Sonoma by about 4 years and is not supported under Sonoma. GR6 is also long since retired and will not see any fixes for an issue like this.

From what I can see then Guitar Rig 6 is not officially compatible with Sonoma , ref. : Compatibility of Native Instruments Products on macOS. That said then the official compatibility list is more of a guideline.

You mention "plugin window" , what format plugin are you using ? (sorry for my Mac ignorance) , have you tried AAX format ? (it is mentioned in the notes below Apple silicon compatibility)

Did you try running DAW in Rosetta to see if that made any difference ?

The reason I ask, is I am currently using Windows 10 and still have sessions with Guitar Rig 5 Pro as the guitar rig for those older tracks.

Guitar Rig 6 was only replaced by Guitar Rig 7 two and a half years ago. I wouldn't consider that "long since retired" to anyone who spent money on it.

I own Guitar Rig 5 Pro, have 6 LE downloaded and own the latest version of and Guitar Rig 7 Pro - but should be able to use all if I spent money on each of them, and each of them are currently listed in Native Access as being active.

Are operating system updates going to render our plugins useless soon? If so, I need to know what to do in order to preserve the products I've spent money on.

Generally then I would expect that Guitar Rig 6 most likely works OK on Windows 10/11 .

Unknown. GR6 was never supported under Sonoma and was never tested under it - so anything is possible

Correct you are. And as long as you continue to run a supported operating system that nicely parallels with GR6 lifecycle (Oct 2020 - September 2023) it should work just as perfect as it did when released back in 2020.

However as soon as GR7 appeared in Sept 2023 - GR6 was retired. All dev resources and support are now devoted to GR7. So IF what you are seeing is a specific problem with GR6 - all I am saying is that because GR6 is now considered legacy software - it will not see any fixes.

As above - you most certainly can use each of them with one important caveat: if you are choosing to invest in the Apple eco system - you must run these older versions on the operating systems that were current (and supported) when GR5 was current, when GR6 was current - and of course now - with GR7 current.

As soon as an older Mac OS is declared "end of life" over at Apple - so is it end of life for all vendors. Testing stops, fixes cease and of course - so does any support.

Now - this does not mean you can't run these old timers - it's just that you are now on your own.

Windows is infinitely more tolerant and will allow you to run all sorts of older versions with no issues.

Anyone using MacOS is guaranteed to eventually experience plugin loss (if they do not upgrade) due to Apple policies. If you choose to use MacOS AND choose to upgrade to the latest and greatest OS each September - you will need to pay attention and keep ALL your fav plugins in lockstep with whatever OS version you decide to run.

FWIW - Sonoma is officially End of Life on November 30, 2026.

Whatever you choose to do before then - be sure to check compatibility on all your plugins...
