Connecting mac with traktor controller

Question

Hello, I have a question. I own a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) running macOS Monterey version 12.7.6, and I use a second-hand Traktor Kontrol S2 MK2 DJ controller. I would like to download a version of your software that is compatible with these devices.

I’m unsure whether I should buy Traktor Play or Traktor Pro 4. I’m interested in Traktor Play mainly because it includes two months of free Beatport, and I read on your website that I could buy an upgrade to Traktor Pro 4 by paying only the upgrade price (€74.50) instead of the full price (€149) right after.

Traktor Play currently only works with few controllers. As far as I know Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk2 isn't one of them. You most likely will need Traktor Pro 4. This at the time being still compatible with macOS 12 Monterey but I expect one of the next updates will drop support for Monterey.

In theory the controller should work with Traktor Pro 3 too but there are no good ways of obtaining a licence. Update from Traktor Play to Traktor Pro 4 is available at a discount but as I understood it should be the price difference between Play and Pro 4 which would be 100€.

I suggest getting Traktor Pro 4.

All current Traktor controllers include a licence for Traktor Pro 4 if you buy them new. If you buy a Traktor controller used you get the same licence as came with that device originally - as long the seller follows NI licence transfer process and supplies a licence transfer ID. In case of S2 Mk2 it is useless to Mac users as it came with Traktor Pro 2 which isn‘t supported on current versions of macOS anymore.

Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk2 is a class compliant device - no additional drivers needed on macOS. It is still fully supported with Traktor Pro 4.

That your S2 only has controls for two decks is no real issue. With the factory mapping you can just control decks A and B in Traktor. You still can control decks C and D with the user interface on your MacBook or with another controller. You can hide them also and don‘t have to use deck C and D at all.
