Traktor Pro 4 - Cruise Mode - Issues

Hi I have needed to use cruise mode in two situations:-

Firstly for a pee break. But I was unable to turn it off once I got back to the console. There is no highlight when cruise is enabled and no apparent way to toggle it off. I had to shut Traktor down completely. Embarrassing at a gig. 😪

Secondly - I have used Cruise mode in our retail store to play a 3 day long playlist. BUT it starts to repeat the program after 1 to 1 1/2 hours BORING!!!!

If anyone has solutions to either problem, I'd be grateful to hear from you.

When I am using cruise mode to cover a break or just listening to a playlist I got into the habit of pushing both track channel volume sliders right to the top and use channel gain and the main output level knobs to determine overall volume and then engage the cruise mode button. I do this for 2 reasons. 1 - if you don't have the volume slider right up, activating the cruise button will immediately be louder, as if the volume slider is fully pushed up, and 2 - having both volume sliders up means that you visually can tell that both channels are active, so when you return from your break, you don't accidentally start trying to push a volume slider up and start the (unwanted) activation of the next track while stopping the track playing suddenly and the usual human response of trying to fade that one down starts the whole new track loading while cutting the old track, over and over until you stop both decks. So I come back, de-activate the cruise button and pull the inactive channel volume slider back to zero, then load a new track (If required) and continue as normal. The cruise mode also works well with the "activate fade in and fade out markers" option in loading preferences if you have set these on your tracks. I use hotcue buttons 7 & 8 for these. There are no silences between tracks using this. One little issue I have with the "activate fade in and fade out markers" though is that I have to de-activate the "activate fade in and fade out markers" option check box when returning to active duty, as it can cause a stutter start when pressing play on a track that has these markers. I have noticed the cruise playlist sometimes skips lots of tracks and just randomly chooses where to start playing from next in the playlist, but that doesn't happen very often and I'm not sure what triggers it.

Cruise Mode (and Fade-IN/OUT Markers) is badly implemented and hasn't been updated since TP2. It's even been deprecated in external mixer mode recently, with the removal of software line fader controls. I don't ever use it. If i want to take a break, i mix in a pre-mixed set. With that being said, it's good that this feature hasn't been removed completely as there is use of it for a selection of users.

I have use for the fading markers as visual cues though.

I use it all the time at home because I like listening to albums and revisiting various playlists especially when I do work and chores around the house. Streamers don't have all the music I like. I can also socialize at parties when I'm asked to DJ (for free).

Guys thanks….. I really didn't notice the highlight on the Cruise button. It is VERY subtle !

Terb - Yes your idea of pushing both faders up is what I found I needed to do to prevent the unintentional volume increase. God - why can't NI just make the Cruise icon change to blue background when it's active. That's what it used to do. Or it could turn red, there are code apps that builders can use to do either - it ain't rocket science.

Terb - When you are listening at home does the program repeat after an hour or so ?

DJ Uncle G I also preferred when the cruise button had a colour, as its less obvious if it's on now. No, I don't get the 1 - 1 1/2 hour playlist thing, maybe check the consistency of your tracks so that the tracks are definitely in their rightful place in your directory because it will skip if the tracks aren't where they are supposed to be. My playlists go all day long. If you have activated the "cruise loops playlist" option in preferences maybe turn it off as this repeats the playlist once it's run through, and see if that changes anything. I only have the "loading only into stopped deck","stop playback at end of track" and "Activate load in and out markers" active, but it also works for me with the "cruise loops playlist" active too. Maybe you could also use mp3val to check that some of your mp3 tracks aren't corrupted/incomplete as well. I play a mixture of wav, flac, m4a and mp3 without issue.
