Using 3rd party VST on Maschine Plus

Hey there
I am currently evaluating the move from Maschine 3 to Maschine Plus.
Is it possible to use VST instruments and effects which are not MKS compliant directly in Maschine Plus. In other words can I see, select and use presets and controls of these VST plugins without using an external computer.

I think this is where the market is heading to though, as people in this premium groovebox category want synths as well as expansions, although there will have to be some propriety compliance.

Thankfully we have some nice synths already based on classic synths, but would be nice for other soft synth companies to get in the act if they open it up for business.

Maybe Maschine+ Mk2?

If you want the full monty - like I would get here using Studio One on a Windows DAW - where every plugin is supported from the get go - this seems impossible to comprehend in a proprietary box like Maschine.

Considering how fast the VST SDK spec changes (especially now that the SDK is going open source) - any box like a Maschine would be obsolete days weeks after buying it as the support for every possible plugin out there would be impossible to maintain.

For something like Maschine to maintain it's stability AND remain supported (who is going to support you if you jam some oddball plugin into your device and it gets bricked?) it will need to be managed in an ongoing (and absolute) proprietary fashion where NI decides what goes on it and what cannot.

I think where the market is heading is AI more like so rather than having a plugin per-se it will be some kind of AI powered prompt thing that will generate the sounds for you without needing actual plugins and samples. Companies rather you buy their dedicated controller plugins and devices than mess with supporting others which is fair enough. Most of these standalone hardware devices have companies that develop plugins behind them: Ableton have Push with their own devices, same with Akai, same with NI. None of them support plugins because most of these run on Linux and for the most part, Linux does not support these but time will tell, just not in any current generation of products.

No, i'm not talking full VST support. You clearly missed a part of what I wrote.

I mean looking at MPC and it embracing synths and effects from third parties and the colossal uptake of people willing to spend £1400+ on a unit that offers these as well as some functionality that Maschine+ doesn't currently have, and people willing to pay extra for the extras, then I think Akai are clearly on to something.

That's the future I think this will be heading in if they want to compete and I think NI can see that there's a market for this as they're getting involved.

I have little interest in AI apart from stem separation. The effort is what makes the rewards for me and that includes most people doing this. It's a hobby not a business.

AI is supposedly already making chart toppers and i'm in blissful ignorance of anything created by it, other that an occasional parody I might happen upon.

Oh, I have zero interest to consume any "creative media" generated or heavily assisted by AI either, it is what is ruining the landscape already in so many ways and the way it will eventually consume us all, first by dumbing everyone down to the level where it is just accepted…. like social media. Sadly almost all corporations are shoehorning AI into everything they do, or at least slapping that AI tag on it like it's something to be proud of.

Last time I checked - in order for a device to "embrace" ANY synths and/or effects from a third party - it needs to have full VST support. OR NI needs to get permission from that third party to completely recode and reconfigure a third party synth and/or effect FOR Maschine specifically.

It's either one or the other and both sound like very tall (if not impossible) orders.

Which third parties? As far as I'm aware, all the MPC plugins come either from Akai themselves or (only recently) Native Instruments because they collaborated.

Admittedly it is a little bit disappointing that it seems to be a one way street, with no Akai stuff being available for the Maschine+ but at least we're starting to get a trickle of + releases (and hopefully future products will include + versions by default).

Well NI is a third party isn't it and even 1 is enough for the sake of saying it? I think there's a tape effect made by another third party though, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, i'm not here to argue the technicalities of what I said as I don't understand the coding side of things and technicalities in achieving this, but if NI can work with Akai then it stands to reason that it can work both ways.

I have the full monty so to speak with Live 12 Suite, a whole host of plug-in synths and effects from a large number of companies. I dont need this in a box and nor did I call for it. I made an opinion on how I see the future of premium grooveboxes. If your view is different then that's fine, but I think you're taking the approach that i'm asking for something that I haven't so perhaps you need to read what I said before taking a high hand.

Actually, just checked and the tape effect looks to be made by Air, so a company within the company. It's because it works with daws that I assumed it had been ported over.
