The direct connection of Kontakt in the Maschine software gone in 3.4 version

I've got Kontrol MK3 for Christmas! What a gift that is. I've been pretty happy with it so far - this thing is a solid unit and looks impressive when you open the box.

However, there is one thing that is a bit disappointing. When Kontrol MK3 first launched, people said that you could open Kontakt inside the Maschine software and the browser and other Kontakt tools would work directly on the controller. Nevertheless, when I open the instance of Kontakt in Maschine 3.4, there is no direct connection between Kontrol and Kontakt. Kontakt loads up like any other instrument inside Maschine. Funnily enough, when I open Kontakt inside Maschine 2 software (that doesn't have any integration with Kontrol at all), everything works as it should - I can browse the instruments and even use/add/change Kontakt tools directly on the controller. Obviously, I would like to use Maschine 3.4 as it has more options and better integration with Kontrol MK3 overall. Can anyone help with that? Is there a workaround? I would maybe accept the situation as it is if there were no direct connection with Kontakt present in Maschine 2 soft...

Just to get things clear - I understand that the browser of Maschine software cannot be operated on Kontrol MK3 at the moment, but Kontakt has its seperate browser and I thought that it would be possible to browse Kontakt libraries on the controller as it has direct connection with Kontakt. Well, this functionality even works in Maschine 2.0, so I am really surprised that it is gone in the newer iteration of the Maschine software.

When you use Maschine 3 you are "direct connecting" the MK3 to Maschine as if it were a plugin not like a DAW. That's why you can't do direct connection to Kontakt, because there would be a conflict (i.e. you can't have a direct connection inside a direct connection)

Maschine uses a different protocol from what the other supported DAWs use, and unfortunately the issue you raise is caused by a limitation of the protocol and not an easy fix. However sometime next year I'm planning to look into extending the protocol to support this use case.

There is a difference between Kontakt with maschine 2.0, 3.x and Kontakt. Direct connection with the MK3 and Kontakt means you don't need Maschine - but if you're creating tracks in Maschine, there is now direct connection inside of Maschine to Kontakt - it runs as a VST plugin inside Maschine - whereas Kontakt as a VST can directly connect to the MK3.

Think of it as Maschine 3.x supports MK3 with some basic funcitons as you say, but the only products with direct connection are Komplete Kontrol 3.x and Kontakt 8.x and above.

If you're using a DAW, this should become clear, but if youre using Maschine to make tracks, it is perhaps less so.

Well, yes and no. Maschine 3 SW, as far as I know, was written on the same code as Maschine 2 SW. When I open Kontakt in Maschine 2 SW, everything works - there is direct connection between Kontakt and the Maschine software. Why cannot it be like that in Maschine 3 out of nowhere? I understand that they added some basic integration between Kontrol MK3 and Maschine software in 3.0, but why would they need to remove the Kontakt integration?

Kontrol MK3 is even more integrated with Ableton Live than it is with the Maschine software but the direct connection with Kontakt works. I don't really see the reason why it shouldn't work with the Maschine software when it works with Ableton and other DAWs with a deep integration.

Generally, I think that allowing people to use Komplete Kontrol or the direct connection of Kontakt inside Maschine software would be a great workaround for not being able to control the Maschine browser from Kontrol MK3.

Maschine 2.x and 3.x are not the same codebase - there are significant changes.

Where you're assuming a direct connection with Kontakt, it isn't the case - Maschine is the wrapper, as is Komplete Kontrol. Direct connection means you do not need Komplete Kontrol with Kontakt - there has never been direct connection in Maschine and Komplete Kontrol 2.x - they were, and still are the wrapper with mapped controls. You have exactly the same setup in Maschine 3.x.

NI advertises the direct connection between Kontakt and Kontrol MK3. Therefore, logically when I open Kontakt in any DAW, Kontrol MK3 should immediately recognise this action and give me possibility to browse through sounds, add tools, etc. This is the case in any DAW/software except Machine 3 software, which is hard to understand for me. Working with Kontakt directly on the controller made Kontrol MK3 more appealing to me and I cannot comprehend why I cannot do it in the Maschine software.

However - you keeping thinking that the Maschine "software" is a DAW - it is not. It is a wrapper.

And despite how you want to think about it - the phrase "direct" connection - ONLY applies to Kontakt when Komplete Kontrol is NOT acting as an intermediary.

Direct Connect has no bearing on with Kontakt running INSIDE the Maschine Software - and never ever has.

There is really not a lot to think about here. You are making assumptions that are incorrect (and do not exist) and make it sound like it's a flaw.

Thank you for your explanation - I really appreciate that. I was not aware that making Kontakt be directly connected to Kontrol MK3 inside Maschine would require so much work. I expected it to be an easier fix. I am looking forward to it work next year - that would be awesome and I think it will make Kontrol MK3 more appealing to many users.
