Opening libraries in Kontakt 8 Player makes them incompatible with my full version of Kontakt 7

I have the full version of Kontakt 7, and only the Player version of K8. I only really use K8 for some newer libraries that won't work in 7.

If I open an older library in Kontakt 8, for example Symphobia (fully updated it's compatible with K6.5.3+) - it now won't open in K7 anymore - an error message says:

"Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file, which was saved with Unknown Tool (unsupported). Please update to the latest version of Kontakt!"

This is unbelievably annoying - is there any way to stop it from happening/get it working in Kontakt 7 again? Thank you.

Symphobia just finished reinstalling and now will open fine in Kontakt 7. It's the same version I had installed, but somehow opening it in K8 Player is making it incompatible with 7.

The only way to get this message on Symphobia WITHIN Kontakt 7 - is if it has been updated to a version that goes beyond support of K7.10.9.

OR you did a Batch Resave in K8 and overwrote the version boundary.

That said - it is my understanding that it is not possible for Kontakt 8 Player to "save" anything on it's own. Only Kontakt 8 Full can do this.

If this was the case for Player - it would overwrite every library ever opened by anyone.

Possible to show a screencap of the message AND the Kontakt UI you are using to open it?

I'm fairly certain this happened to me before with Noire, in fact you commented on my post ( https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/47315/i-use-noire-in-kontakt-7-everyday-today-noire-pure-stopped-loading-but-felt-still-does?tab=accepted#latest ) but I didn't realise that it was opening it in K8 that was somehow causing this issue.

Just tested it with The Orchestra Essentials as well and same thing - I haven't updated anything, but I opened them both in K8 for whatever reason and now they don't open in K7. I am in the middle of reinstalling Symphobia, so will see if that fixes it.

Well that is news to me.

I did not think any version of K Player could actually save anything.

You may want to report this to NI.

Just want to update to say this is still happening. Today I opened an old session with Lores in Kontakt 8 - it then immediately stops opening in Kontakt 7, and I have to reinstall all 70GB of it. Luckily Lores is not that good so I rarely use it. I contacted support way back about this and they effectively said they weren't interested.

Have you contacted NI at all as suggested? Pretty sure if Kontakt 8 Player was capable of overwriting a ton of libraries - we would have had a major outcry from thousands of other users.

Second question - can I ask what is the need for Kontakt 7 at all if you have Kontakt 8 (player or otherwise) installed?

Unless you have a truckload of third party libraries that require opening them via the K7 Files Menu - there is really no point in having two versions of Kontakt installed. K8 Player can open anything and everything that K7 can.

Yes like I said I contacted support. They said:

Unhelpful as expected, and not really related to my question. It was the holidays so I didn't follow up. (Edit: I didn't realise this was an automated email response (mostly because it didn't say that anywhere, but still - my bad).

For your second point yes I do actually have a truckload of third party libraries that I load from the Files menu, so I'll be using K7 until I'm eventually forced to upgrade.

Simply opening it in Kontakt 8 Player should not make it incompatible in Kontakt 7. Only saving the instrument with Kontakt 8 would do that.

AFAIK It is the nki's that have the version info, not the samples. So you only need a backup of the pre K8 nki for when this happens. Of course if you don't save from K8 it should not happen, but apparently it does.

Are you (have you) been saving anything (at all) within these libraries when they are loaded via Kontakt 8 Player?
