I have been using Absynth since the very start - I was a beta tester.
I have folders relating to Absynth 2, 3, 4 and 5 that contain Samples.
Now that I have Absynth 6, can I trash these folders, or are the samples still needed for old presets?
Some will be trash and some others necessary for some presets.
Find the duplicates, delete the older ones and keep the rest.
You can do it quick and smart.
Copy everything from your old Samples folder and paste it to the new Samples folder (the Absynth 6 folder).
Your operation system will inform you that it found xxxx duplicate files and ask you to overwrite them.
Choose NO. In this way, the newer samples from Absynth 6 will remain intact.
The system will copy everything else.
Now you can safely delete your old Samples folder and everything inside it.
You can also add several additional sample patches in Absynth 6 settings so I just added a path to my Absynth 5 samples folder as well
Thanks Sunborn and Kymela - good advice!
Question: Do I copy the old Samples to the Absynth 6 Factory folder in Application Support, or the User folder? The factory folder already contains 27 sub-folders, some of which look like they come from Absynth 5.
I think either would be fine - personally I don't bother because I want to keep my Absynth 5 folder and have enough space so it's not an issue - I just add the paths to the various folders and then don't have to worry about overwriting anything
Unlike Kontakt, Absynth is actually very forgiving about sample paths - as long as the sample is in one of the designated sample folders it seems to find it even if the sub bank changes
Thanks Kymeia - good to know.
