Can I save application files to an external drive to save space on my macbook pro?

Sooooo, I just bought the KOMPLETE 15 COLLECTORS EDITION Update. I notice that there are a billion files to download. I won't have enough space on the laptop but I have ample space on my external ssd. Can I download these files to the SD and still operate

the program?

Yes you can. With a caveat.

In the main title you call them applications. In facts, the vaste majority of what you see in NA are libraries and expansions. Those can be installed without any issue on external storage.

The TRUE applications are few (Kontakt, Komplete Kontrol, Battery, Guitar Rig, Massive, Reaktor, FM8, Ozone… I think that’s it…).

Although even those can be installed on external storage, it is preferable to have them on computer’s internal disk (less troubles and some swear on them working better).

But… don’t worry… as you will notice, those are not the most space requiring stuff. Not even close to the hundreds of Gb required by the libraries.

Up to you if you want to try to also install them on external or if you can find some space for them on your laptop.

You will even find out that in NA preferences, under File Management, they give you the opportunity to set up different locations exactly for Applications and Content.
