Hello everyone
I’m using a Traktor Kontrol Z1 MK2 with Traktor Pro 4, and I’m facing a persistent issue with the gain knobs
The problem
In 95% of the situations where I play, the gain knobs become unusable beyond 50% of their physical range.
Modern tracks are already mastered very loud, and the Z1’s gain range goes up to +12 dB, which makes it extremely easy to clip the signal.
As a result, the useful part of the knob is basically the first half of its travel, and the rest of the curve is too sensitive or simply unusable.
What I tried
I attempted to solve this by remapping the Z1 MK2 inside Traktor:
- assigning a limited gain range,
- using modifiers to switch deck layers,
- enabling soft takeover, etc.
Even after quite a lot of testing, the solution is not reliable, especially because the Z1 is not meant to be fully remapped, and using modifiers breaks the normal layer behaviour.
What I’m looking for
I’m not trying to redesign the controller or create a complex MIDI mapping.
I simply want the ability to:
👉 calibrate or reduce the gain knob range inside Traktor,
👉 ideally per deck or globally,
👉 without having to remap the Z1 MK2 or override its factory mapping.
My question
Is there any existing way in Traktor Pro 4 to reduce the usable gain range (for example cap the gain at +3 dB or +6 dB instead of +12 dB) without remapping the controller?
If the answer is no,
👉 could this be implemented in a future Traktor update?
A simple preference such as “Maximum Deck Gain Boost” would solve the problem cleanly for many users, especially given how hot modern tracks are mastered.
Thanks a lot for your help,
Philippe
