Is it worth upgrading an AMD 5800x to 5950x for Maschine 3 Software?

the 5950x is at 250€ now…

Or is it better to get an Intel Cpu? Or AM5 Cpu?

I Have no clue how maschine consumes cpu power, can it use multiple cores or only one core, is it optimised for amd or intel and so on…

is a signifant power boost possible for not much money?

I can't say I know anything about either of those CPUs (I use Intel) but other factors would play a part too.

How much RAM have you got, of what type? What kind of drives? Old platter drives, SSD, M.2 etc? What spec is your mother board? Are you running into any issues now? Are you pushing Maschine hard?

8 VS 16 cores, double the cores is a massive difference for any application that supports multi-core and scales somewhat decently. For not such a big $ difference, I would def pick the 5950x as a future proofing measure and to have an overall better computer in terms of processing power.

Personally, If I was building a desktop PC now, I would 100% go with AMD and avoid Intel at all costs, even if it was for pre-builts or laptops but I won't bore anyone with "Why" as it's mostly personal views.

Single core is generally something of the past, 2003 type of past, at least when it comes to pro/complex applications. It's multicore like I mentioned but generally barely uses 'threads', 5950x has 16 Cores 32 threads.

It consumes CPU normally, the more cores, the better.. Core usage (scaling) tends to decrease a little bit from the first few the the last. It's way more complicated, but this overall sums it up without getting too technical.

AFAIK there's no such thing as being optimized for either Intel or AMD, It's all x86 at the end of day. I'm not considering things such as power consumption, battery life and such…

In doubt, I would ask in places where users are more active like the Maschine Reddit who owns either 5800x or 5950x and what it takes to max out the CPU (within a specific buffer size otherwise you get meaningless replies).
