Feature Request: Traktor S-Deck 1 - A Modular, Standalone Player for the Xone:96 Generation
Hello NI Team and fellow Traktor users,
I am proposing a concept for a standalone media player (like a CDJ) that is specifically engineered to be the ultimate hardware counterpart for Traktor Pro 4, focusing on its most advanced features and integration into high-end, modular setups.
I call the concept the Traktor S-Deck 1 (The 'S' for Stems/Standalone).
The Vision: A True Digital Turntable
The goal is to provide a world-class digital deck experience that eliminates the need for a laptop at the booth, offering the power of Traktor in a dedicated, reliable hardware unit. This unit would be designed to output pure audio to an external club mixer, such as the Allen & Heath Xone:96 (my personal setup), acting as a true "digital turntable."
Core Features of the Traktor S-Deck 1
This unit must provide a premium, reliable experience, built around Traktor's unique capabilities:
- Standalone Traktor Engine: Runs a dedicated, hardened version of Traktor Pro 4 (or a one-deck Traktor Core OS) directly on the unit.
- Premium Jog Wheel & Transport: Features a large, high-precision jog wheel (ideally high-torque non-motorized with adjustable tension) alongside professional-grade pitch control faders and the standard large Play/Pause, Cue, and Sync buttons.
- High-Resolution Display: A multi-touch screen designed for clear waveform viewing, library navigation, and dedicated Stems visualization (showing the four layers).
- Dedicated Stem Control (The Differentiator): This is the crucial feature. The S-Deck must have a dedicated, intuitive set of illuminated hardware buttons, potentiometers, or touch-strips to instantly isolate, mute, and adjust the volume of each of the four Stems layers (Acapella, Drums, Bass, Melody). This is what sets it apart from all other players.
Designed for Modular Ecosystems
My current setup, and what I believe many professional DJs are moving toward, is a modular ecosystem. The S-Deck 1 would be the perfect centerpiece because it decouples the playback deck from the mixer and effects:
- Integration with Xone:96: The S-Deck outputs its audio directly into the line/DVS inputs of an external mixer.
- Perfect Companion for X1 MK3: The S-Deck handles all playback and Stems control, leaving the Traktor X1 MK3 units (I use two) dedicated solely to advanced effects, looping, and cue points, preventing button clutter on the main deck.
- Custom Controller Hub: The unit should include a built-in USB-Hub or dedicated ports for easily connecting external MIDI devices, such as my preferred Akai controllers, allowing for fully customized effects and performance setups without needing a separate laptop hub.
In summary, the Traktor S-Deck 1 would bring the advanced performance features of Traktor, particularly Stems, to a professional, high-end standalone hardware format that perfectly integrates into the modular, external-mixer setups favored by many professional DJs.
Thank you for considering this proposal! I believe a product like this would revolutionize the Traktor hardware lineup.
