Use a single footswitch to record

Hi,

I got a single button pedal plugged in a Maschine Jam and I would like to use it to start/stop record in Sampler, but it uses the start/stop play feature, is it possible de use the second feature of footswitch instead of the first using a single button pedal?

What kind of pedal is it? I once used an USB Pedal with 3 different switches and just defined them as shortcuts in the operating system (so eg the first button sends the shortcut for rec+start/stop)…

First of all thank you for you reply,

It's a piano sustain pedal from a Casio piano. I'm able to put it in the "footswitch" jack plug of Maschine Jam, so it's a not a USB one.
I tried to change MIDI message with some external MIDI modifier software, but doesn't work

I just discovered something crazy, if I plug the jack cable of the pedal all the way, the pedal handle the "Play/Stop" feature, but if I let a part of the Jack unplugged, the pedal handle the "Record" feature

Yeah, that's normal.

A foot switch is just a button that connects/shorts the Tip or Ring to the Sleeve (positive, negative and ground), each of the 2 combinations does a separate thing, by not connecting the Jack properly on the M+ you basically change which 2 connections you are shorting on the M+ input socket.

If you grab a cable with jacks and use anything metal, like a paper clip to connect and touch the tip/ring with the sleeve it will work too… xD

If having it plugged halfway bother you and you got a soldering iron, it should be very easy to make a female-male adaptor cable.

In the manual it says:

A single footswitch with two pedals can be used to control the transport in the following way:
• Pedal 1: Starts/stop the playback.
• Pedal 2: Engage/disengages recording

It's also described as a stereo socket, so it's TRS. By pulling the plug slightly, you're connecting to the ring connection rather than the tip.

If you want to do it properly, get a two pedal switch 🙂
