Full Kontakt 7.10.9 - Session Guitarist VSTi Get old version error - tried everything to fix

I can't fit this in the support chat box, so here it is:

I am experiencing persistent “too old” errors in Kontakt 7 for the following Session Guitarist libraries, even after reinstalling them:

Picked Acoustic
Strummed
Electric Sunburst Deluxe

Details:

Kontakt 7 full version: 7.10.x full - Reinstalled more than once to make sure
Native Access is installed and up-to-date
Libraries are installed to D:\== NI CONTENT KOMPLETE\…I
I previously renamed the non-working libraries with “ - OLD” before reinstalling all three, which created fresh library folders, but they still do not work
All previous versions/_OLD folders have been removed from my D:\
Standalone Kontakt still shows the “too old” error for these libraries

Session Guitarist Mint works fine, but rarely use it.

My DAW is Cubase Pro 12 and until this is fixed, none of these crucial instruments will work in my projects. So I'm dead in the water for now.

In Access I have a Kontakt (no version number, but when checked it's v.6.8.x and uninstalled it outside of Access as instructed therein since it's the only way to do so. (I use Revo Uninstaller Pro that is very thorough.)

This so it wouldn't cause this old version error. It shows the orange ! Repair in Access but I don't want or should reinstall it? My older projects that used Kontakt 6 versions of VSTi don't work anyway with or without it installed.

I would like you to reset the registration for these three Session Guitarist libraries so that Access/Kontakt recognizes them correctly on my D:\ drive.

Well - there are always forum updates - that stipulate important changes to Kontakt Libraries - usually pinned right at the top of key forums here - like this one for these exact libraries:

Session Guitarist updates and compatibility with Kontakt 7/6 - Community

And of course within NA itself - we have the Release Notes.

Tip: Instead of immediately clicking on Update in NA - take a few seconds to read the Release Notes for each of these Session libraries - and you will see each has a huge warning about the Kontakt version required.

Many users have commented on making NA more content "aware" but that a very complex task with a very low priority at this time.

Your best defence against ruining a working install - is you.

You need to roll back all libraries. You can get the installers by logging into you NI Account and then going here:

@Vocalpoint - Thanks for reply, Deleted original reply to you since I tried the ISO install route you suggested. The following post starting with "Update" explains what happened.

Got a ticket number by email and so replied with link to this thread so hopefully this is enough info to address this situation.

Update: Did the ISO route to install Picked Acoustic (download version was older 2023 version), and the Strummed Acoustic (2019 is the latest there), Access asked to update, so did so.

Still won't work.
Now here's a wrinkle that makes no sense:

My current Cubase project has 2 of these (Picked and Electric Sunburst) working, but to test, I made duplicate tracks to see if re-loading the same instruments would work. Same old version error on these duplicate tracks.

How can the original track work but not the duplicate. Again, these are all full Kontakt 7.10.9 - the latest of the 7 series. As to Cubase, refreshed Plugin Manager, no new instruments listed.

I cannot afford to go to full Kontakt 8 and that could probably screw everything up even more.

You cannot do these via NA.

They must be manual. And you must remove the prior versions before installing the older versions.

Thanks for another response.

I did do this manually through the downloaded ISO versions at my NI account, but Access stated that these versions needed to be updated after those ISO installs.

In that case, do I need to start all over again - use ISO files, then NOT update through Access?

But I don't understand why updating these NI instruments using Access — it knows that I have full Kontakt 7.10.9 — would make them too "old". Other NI instruments open in this version of Kontakt just fine - including the Mint version of Session Guitarist.

It IS the latest version of v.7.
I have Kontakt 8 Player, not the full version.

From what I remember, this all started when I allowed Access to do update these Session Guitarist instruments in the last 36 hours. I can't remember if Mint was among them, but I do recall Sunburst, Picked and Strummed. Maybe even Kontakt 7 too, but not totally sure.

Unfortunately Native Access does not know (or care) what version of Kontakt you have.

If you roll back these libraries and go back into NA - and click Update - it will instantly update them to the latest version (requiring Kontakt 8.4.0 - or higher).

If you are intent on staying on K7 and using the older versions of these libraries - be sure to never click Update with NA again - or you will put yourself right back in this mess

If you choose to use NA again and upgrade these libraries - you will need to either upgrade to Kontakt 8.4.0 or higher OR use Kontakt 8 Player for these specific libraries.

OK, between my somewhat chaotic journey through this and your confirmation, I have to be careful.

So for now since I'm still with Kontakt 7, I probably should re-uninstall these VSTi, do the ISO thing again, and then not update in NA.

However for some reason as stated earlier, my projects tracks that have Session Guitarist Sunburst Deluxe and Picked Acoustic are OK. The problem arises if I for some reason I swap those out on those tracks or try to put them back in, the too-old-version of Kontakt happens.

All rather confusing, but again, got to vigilant.

I just wish NI would warn users that such things can happen. Better yet, not have NA update instruments that the installed Kontakt version can't play. Such as some pop-up or such with something like:

"Warning: this version of this instrument /plugin will require Kontakt v.B from now on - your current version is v.A Do you still want to update/install?"

Shouldn't be that hard — especially with AI these days.
But then what do I know…
