setting up my new/used Kontrol S61 MK1 via midi DIN

hello there , i am new here and i am trying to figured out how to set this MK1 which i bought used with my Roland integra 7 , there is no midi din out signal , i guess i need a software for this perhaps a factory reset ??can't find anything online , any help is appreciated thank you

As far as I know then the 5-pin DIN Midi is not available when you have the keyboard attached by USB , so either un-plug the keyboard USB from the PC (and power the keyboard using a PSU) and use the DIN Midi plug or route the Midi via software on the PC and an USB to Midi cable from the PC to the other device.

Please check out section 8.3 of the Kontrol S61 MK1 manual page 86 .

Section 8.2 only refers to "switching the keyboard between controlling the KOMPLETE KONTROL software and MIDI mode" , meaning Midi mode via USB .

You'll need the Controller Editor software to set up the keyboard templates to use MIDI. @JesterMgee knows the KK keyboards pretty well, so he might be able to help.

@PoorFellow i did disconnect the usb and still no midi output , i know cable and sound module are ok because i can use a different midi controller and does work

i also updated the firmware so i noticed that the kk mk1 now is on even with the usb unplugged this after the fw update

Did you reboot the keyboard ? Turn off - on again ? , Eventually though should not be necessary (?) then try cycling using the SHIFT + INSTANCE . Otherwise it can also be a problem related to selecting the right Midi channel on the keyboard ? For selecting Midi channel on the Mk1 you might have to use the Controller Editor to make a Template.

Else then all I can do is to recommend checking the manual as I never had any such keyboard myself and never tried any of it.

I have seen before though the odd strange problem with connecting to external hardware unit but no reason yet to believe that that applies here.

Komplete Kontrol app and the Controller Editor should be free to download , at least after registering the keyboard , I don't know about before in N.A. . But as far as I can see then they are both free to download from diverse link on pages including on pages that I linked to prior.

@PoorFellow hello , so yes i restart pc and the kk several times , still nothing shift/instance same no improvement , i did buy this kk 61 used so i don't think i can re register , but i did tried to use with my daw and does work (sonar by band lab) not sure now if there is an issue with the board or just matter of setting , but according to the manual in order to use a stand alone as a midi controller is as easy as 1 2 3

@mykejb hi so i downloaded the controller editor for W10 2.8.2 and the connect is highlighted in orange and cant be pressed i see some changes when i select assignment PC but i don't' see any any midi assignment that i need , i briefly look at the manual and only talk about MK2 midi assignment ,

Yes , it should be as easy as that , and that should work with no Shift+instance also , quote :
If you power up the KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series keyboard without an USB connection
(while the power supply is connected), you can use it as a stand-alone MIDI controller by con-
necting MIDI devices to the 5-pin DIN MIDI sockets on the keyboard’s rear panel.

So the only thing I can come up with is if you either need to reset the midi template using the Controller Editor , by loading a default template or you need to test the Midi DIN using another device or a test device. As I wrote earlier then it has been seen that there has been the odd issue with external devices , probably sync issues , but I really do not know anything specific about that.

P.S. If you have a good quality USB to Midi PC cable with I/O , such as e.g. ESI MidiMate eX , then you should be able to use the PC to test the DIN port : How to Monitor the Output of a MIDI Controller .

@PoorFellow @mykejb hi once again thank you for your help i wanted to thank you all for you time and efforts , i finally got it to work , i was able to load (i think) a factory template and boom got it to work , don't ask me how i did it because i don't even know , i do have other questions not sure if i continuing on here or start a new tread …..thank you

@PoorFellow well to be honest both Roland integra7 and the KK are new to me so i am trying to navigate around and get to know both of them , so , as of right now i am trying to not bother people to much LOL ,i will be back once i sort few things out , thank you and have a good evening 😉
