I often use hot cues as a kind of on-the-fly sample creation tool. I might lay down six hot cues within a very short span and then kind of use them as one would use samples if you were using a sampler like the SP-404 from Roland and so on.
In doing this, I exhaust the eight hot cues quickly. And it's a pity, because I've become quite fond of this "trick".
I have the S8, you know, the pads are great and it just lends itself very well to doing this. And I think that maybe, increasing the number of hot cues to 16, in the software, might be doable without the need for major overhauls.
Personally, I have no expectation of this being particularly integrated into the interface, whether the app or the controllers. I'm totally happy to MIDI map it, as I suspect would be most power users.
