instrument in Native Access but missing from Kontakt

Just upgraded to Kontakt 8 and, I think multiple instruments are missing. As you can see from my screenshot, I have West Africa installed, but it's not showing in Kontakt and I can't therefore use it in my DAW. Any ideas?

… and just in case anyone's wondering, it should be visible…

try to open Kontakt in stand alone, and let it update the database.

if that doesn't work and you are on Mac, you can go to library/aplication support and delete the Kontakt folder, than open Kontakt in stand alone and it will build the database from scratch.

if on a windows computer, try to do the equivalent of what I suggested on the Mac OS

    it usually works for me.

    That was hilarious.

I was in standalone but I closed it. Deleted the folder (and Kontakt and Kontakt 7 folders) and then reopened it. I watched as it built another Kontakt 8 folder and opened up to reveal precisely 1 of the 30k+ presets I should have. 🤣

I closed it and reopened it and it's now up to 1600 or so… but should it really take that long?

I'm on a Win11 machine by the way and to find the folder, you need to visit the

    %localappdata%

folder and find Kontakt under Native Instruments.

Now up to 4k presets… ho hum… I'll let you know if it finds all that should be there eventually.

hahah ok! keep me posted!! I'm curious now! I think how long it takes depends on your system and the quantity of libraries you have.

I've got Collector's Edition so a pretty big stash of stuff… but a pretty good system too. It's all on a dedicated SSD. From memory, I should have something like 36k presets. I'm currently up to 11k so a fair way to go yet.

Halfway through and the good news is that West Africa has loaded so I can at least get on with my day. Thanks for your help.

nope… can't get on with my day at all. Try as I might, I cannot get West Africa to show up in Cubase 14 as a VST instrument.

    Here's a screenshot:

    image.png

On the left is Komplete Kontrol from a Cubase VST track. Note the number of presets (29k+) and the fact that West Africa (and more) is missing.

On the right is Kontakt 8 which is now stuck at 14k presets and yet has West Africa and more that seems to be missing from Komplete Kontrol.

I've rebooted and it's made no difference.

What's more, pressing F11 in Cubase to bring up the VST Instruments panel shows the folders "Kontakt" and "Kontakt 7" that I deleted from my Win11 local folder.

    What's going on?

It's a little difficult to follow from the above how far you have reached rebuilding the Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol DB. First of then I think that you might have to reset the KK and the Kontakt DB separately if you did not ,and also then you ought not keep closing and opening apps while they are rebuilding the DB but rather let the app build the DB , in some cases it could take hours . And also then the plugin versions are not ready to use before that you have rebuilt the DB using the standalone version and it might induce more problems if you do not follow procedure… I am no N.I. expert so this is just my personal advice.

    thanks for replying.
So, to reset the Kontakt DB, I simply delete the local Kontakt folder and then open standalone Kontakt and it starts rebuilding, right? Well, I did that and it stalled at 14851 presets which is about half of what it should be. All instruments between Deft Lines and Mallet Flux alphabetically are missing. I'll try starting that again and simply leaving it.

As for rebuilding the KK DB, well that's the first I've heard I need to do that. Where do I start with that?

And why should any of these processes be necessary? All I did was update Kontakt to v8 🤷

These are the mysteries that is best left to N.I. to answer😉 (I did find this discussion earlier today though I do not know for sure if it has any real relevance to your question)

    reinitialize the KONTAKT Database

    Resetting the Komplete Kontrol Database

My Komplete Kontrol Browser is Empty or Incomplete

I did read a post some months ago that someone that did a reset, of I am not sure if it were Komplete Kontrol (?) , had a DB rebuild time of 10 hours or more, though frankly it's so long time ago that I read it that it makes what I write appear as anecdotal even to myself 🤔

Thanks for the support. So, I've left Kontakt to recompile its database. It seems to have stopped now with 20,541 presets across 122 instruments.

Then I turned to Komplete Kontrol. I noticed that following your link above and "resetting" KK DB it tells me to delete three files that I'd find in

    C > Users > *User name* > App Data > Local > Native Instruments > Komplete Kontrol

Instead of seeing komplete.db3, Plugin.data and UserData.json however, I only see Plugin.data and UserData.json. I also see Plugin_kk3.data. Should I delete that or not?

Plugin.data turns out to be in a folder named Browser Data along with two other files: lock.lck and user_config.db3. What do I do with them? Should I delte Plugin.data even though its in a sub-folder?

In the meantime, I told KK to rescan Plug-ins without deleting anything. It did this and has 29,017 presets across 90 instruments.

How does Kontakt have more instruments but fewer presets?

I also see Plugin_kk3.data. Should I delete that or not?

I honestly do not know , might depend on exactly what you want to do, Sunborn writes about the Plugin_kk3.data here.

Had it been I then with the kind of problems that you have then I would most likely had removed everything related to Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol and uninstalled and re-installed.

However since you have these problems then even though that you say that everything shows in Native Access then I would also as first thing delete the N.A. XML because as far as I understand then N.A. gives information to Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol. (For resetting the Native Access XML file , look at section 8 here : My Product is Missing in Native Access )(using latestversion of Native Access for your OS )

But again then I am not an expert from N.I. and perhaps it is those that you need to ask .
