Keyboard mode - first sample sometimes placed on E key instead of C

I'm using a Kontrol keyboard along with Maschine Studio. Randomly when I chop some samples, assign to a group, then trigger one sample on the keyboard (because I want to hear it in different pitches vs pad mode), the E key triggers it instead of the C (aka the sound was mapped to E instead of C). It's not a big deal, as this isn't really about notes/pitch, but rather just knowing where the starting point is. Can't figure out why it does this, or how to fix it. Changing the "root note" doesn't change the first position on the keyboard, it just changes the pitch of that sample. Is there a way to get it to move the first position to a C key. (once again, just want to key to trigger the primary sound as the C key, not anything to do with actual pitch). Does that make sense? Recently upgraded to Maschine3, but was happening in 2 also…

never happens to me, if I press "apply", select a group then press "ok", the slices sample gets basically copied to all 16 pads but with different play ranges, the root key is always the same and I can play that slice over the whole keyboard. How do you exactly apply the slices?

Same process! Except what I'm talking about is, for example, say you slide a drum break and it applies each slice to each of the 16 pads. But then I want to play, for example, the kick on pad 5 over my keyboard. Normally the original kick at pad 5 will show up on the C key of the keyboard - but randomly it applies this first/primary sound E instead of C … very strange.

How often does it happen, I tried a few times applying slices to a group and all slices where set with root key c3 and playable over the whole keyboard range, if you select a pad/slice and select keyboard mode. Or maybe I somehow understand you wrong.
