Rig Kontrol 2 is pretty much a 20 year old product that's no longer in production and the technology for such things has moved on to the point there's likely no one producing the components being used in it. That's simply the nature of digital electronics. In a like manner there are TONS of software programs from that era that can't be run on Windows 10 or 11 because the entire infrastructure of the operating system has changed in order to provide more relevant and useful features, especially as it pertains to device drivers. I'm not even sure if they were to provide the source code you could use much of it since that model of device driver structure would no longer compile and run on a Windows 10 or 11 computer.

What programs that run on Win 7 or even WinXP cannot run on Win10/11? There is not that much difference between Win2000/XP/7/10/11…. Even most 30 years´ old Win programs may run on Win10/11. The oposite is not true, some newer programs will not run on older versions of Win.

Other opinion:
If only they wanted to, they could. Maybe making us pay the right price for the work done to make the older stuff compatible.
They simply don’t want.
They want to sell new stuff.
Unluckily the idea that some things can still be used (because still perfectly working, in good conditions and fulfilling our needs) is only from the users side, not from the side of companies wanting to sell more. They don’t see (or they think that is not enough) that money can be earned also “maintaining” stuff. Leave alone the idea to try to diminish the human footprint on this world (avoiding to waste perfectly working stuff creating more and more trash (that isn’t really trash because it could still serve its purpose), the impact of producing new stuff, …). If you even only say something like this, you are labeled as “naive”

All companies throughout history respond to what the bulk of the paying consumers are demanding. That's why Ford is no longer making the Edsel.

For the OP - totally agree that Rig Control was heavy duty in its day.
But you needed to understand - on the day you bought it - that nothing is supported forever, and everything gets retired - an unbreakable rule across all products in all verticals since the beginning of time.
Regardless of how good (or not good) said product was.
Another way of looking at this - is this - who said you needed to use Windows 10 or 11?
Stay with the computer AND the last OS that supported Rig Control 2 drivers and do your thang. There is no reason to upgrade anything if all you really want is to get more mileage from your purchase.

It's why some of us still have several old computers or backup images of Win 98/XP/2000 systems knowing modern systems will not run the older software/hardware. Had the same issue with my trusty old Presonus Firebox when they did not release W10 drivers… Was compounded further by firewire ports dropping off MOBOs in the following years. Was a tank of an interface, reliable and very low latency and I loved it. Still have it in original box, worth close to $0 now, far from the $600 odd I bought it for 15 years ago…

RME still supports its old HW like Fireface 400/800 (released 2004). It has drivers for Win11 and for Apple Silicon…. But yes, it is more exception than industry rule.
Eventide still sort of supports (not SW or firmware) legacy HW like Eclipse (2002), H8000 (2005) on its user forum.
But sure, one is never sure, if his HW will get long life support or no…
I can understand that NI does not support Rig Controll any more….. But I do not understand Komplete Kontrol Sxx MK1 is not supported in NI SW any more. It is not that old and KK S88 has costed quite a lot.
