Can I use these samples with Dorico?

I downloaded <CarillondeGand.sfArk> from Sonokinetic. It said it was compatible with VST. I would like to import this library into Dorico.

Is this doable?

Thanks,

Don

If what you are referring to is the Carillon Kontakt Library from Sonokinetik, you must open the Kontakt VST inside of Dorico and there open the Library

    Great!

It is Carillon from Sonokinetik. How do I open Kontakt VST inside Dorico? I haven't actually ordered Kontakt yet. I wanted to make sure it would work first.

Also, there's nothing in Dorico's manual about this so I have no idea how to proceed.

You don’t need to order full Kontakt, it works with the free Kontakt Player version, which is included, with other products, in the free Komplete Start bundle. Links (the page for Kontakt Player will lead you to the page for Komplete Start, but I add them both):

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/samplers/kontakt-8-player/

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-start/

Once you have it, you’ll probably be prompted to also download Native Access (the NI installation and authorization manager). There you’ll be able to install what interests you from the bundle.

Once you also have Kontakt Player installed, it will be scanned by Dorico and you can open it as any other plugin (VST or AU since you’re on MAC) inside of it. (Maybe open Kontakt as standalone the first time before opening it in Dorico, to let it build its library)

Another free download you can install is Komplete Kontrol, that is another “wrapper” that can open Kontakt libraries (in facts it opens Kontakt inside of it) and gives the advantage to use NKS (a “format” that automaps some of the libraries parameters to some keyboards, if you own one of them):

OK, so far so good. But I don't know how to import Carillon Kontakt Library into Dorico, or how to find it once it's there.

Thank you for being so patient.

    No problem.

You don’t have to look for Carillon. You look for Kontakt (or Komplete Kontrol) and then you’ll find Carillon inside of them

OK, where do I look for them?

In Dorico you should have a VST and Midi section. There you can add instruments. In the list appearing you should find Kontakt. Once it is loaded, you can open its interface with the “e” button.

You should find a “how to use plugins” section in Dorico’s manual

I opened Kontakt Player 8, then tried to load Carillon, but it was greyed out.

This is another issue. I’m not that expert with Dorico.

By “greyed out” do you mean is not selectable? And…what is greyed out? Carillon inside of Kontakt?

So I opened Kontakt, went to Libraries, clicked load then navigated to the Carillon file. It was not selectable. I haven't even gotten to Dorico yet. My Carillon f is not inside Kontakt. It doesn't recognize the file.

You probably need to add the Carillon serial number in Native Access, so it will authorize it

That was very helpful. I now have Kontakt 6 as well, and I'm installing Carillon. I have a 40 minute wait ahead of me. After that we'll see if it works yet. It seems like I'm making progress.

So, I have Kontakt 7. It does play Carillon. I can even get it to play in Garage Band, altho it still refuses to record there. What I still cannot do is import it into Dorico so I can use the sounds in my score, which was why I started this so many, many hours ago.

    Any thoughts?

As said, you don’t have to “import” it. You have to open Kontakt plugin in Dorico.

You go to Play, then VST and Midi, add an instrument and from the list chose Kontakt. Open its interface with the “e” button and there load Carillon.

    In the manual:
