problem with Traktor Pro 4 and M3

I’m having an issue with my Traktor Pro 4 setup and my Traktor Kontrol S4 MK1.
My MacBook Air with an M3 chip does not recognize the DJ controller at all.
It doesn’t show up in Traktor or in macOS's Audio MIDI Setup.
I’ve tried using different USB-C adapters and cables, but nothing works.
I suspect it might be a driver or compatibility issue with the newer Mac hardware and macOS version.

Is there any workaround or legacy driver support available for M1/M2/M3 Macs?

Unfortunately Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk1 (and also S2 Mk1) aren‘t compatible with modern Macs.

Last driver version was officially only supported up to macOS 10.11 El Capitan. On new Macs with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3 and M4) there is no chance of getting these devices running. But also Intel Macs with modern versions of macOS will not work. There is at least a chance of installing Windows with Boot Camp.

You will need at least a S4 Mk2 with your new Mac.

"Modern Macs"?! the M3 came out 2 years ago! we got M4 6 months ago after that! how many more models must come out before Native Instruments catch up with the old ones?

Well I still would call all Macs with Apple Silicon modern Macs. I would even call the last Intel Macs that support macOS 15 Sequoia modern in many ways. S4 Mk1 and S2 Mk1 (and many other older NI products) will NEVER be supported on Macs which only run macOS 10.12 or newer - this includes all Macs released after September 2016. There are many Intel Macs that aren't compatible with these old controllers too. This is also true for Audio 4DJ, Audio 8DJ and Traktor Kontrol X1 Mk1. All these devices aren't class compliant. For X1 Mk1 there is a solution by a community member but the other devices also need audio drivers. These just aren't available for macOS 10.12 and newer.

All newer devices are class compliant and therefore work with the general drivers included in macOS.
