Traktor X1 + Xone96 Effects Routing Question

Hi,

I am trying to use X1 to use effects with Xone96. The issue I am having is that I keep hearing the track itself even with effects on Traktor turned off. There is a high chance that I am missing something as I am new to Traktor and external mixers and whole send/return workflows. I would appreciate if anyone could clarify how send/return is supposed to work.

I think what I am hearing is what people call phasing. It makes sense because I am sending a channel to a return and only want to hear the effect on top of what’s playing. However it feels like I am hearing whatever is playing on channel2 + channel2 + effects. I thought it would work so I would hear only the effects if I had volume fader up on returnB. Could it be related to me using effects on Send mode? Should I use insert mode and Send is only for external effects units?

These are my current settings:

Thanks in advance!

send should really only be used for tailing effects such as delay or reverb on full wet and always on

if you're doing modulation like phaser, flanger or lfo type effects - pre/post fader would be the way to go

and stuff like beatslicer, beatmasher, grains would be best pre fader only

So are you saying that my settings should be okay? And what's the workflow for adding reverb for example? I send from let's say channel2 to returnA with these settings and enable effects from X1?

    I meant returnB, sorry

yeah they should be, I would set send 1 to post fader on the physical mixer itself if you haven't already for easier transitions- and just enable which ever fx unit is send and wet all the way up to full

A minor note, because traktor only has one send audio option, and the fx doesn't have a post software volume control- I only recommend using 1 send fx unit

I hear doubling even without enabling any effects if I turn on Send1 and turn volume fader up on returnB

And you are using an effects like delay or reverb?

    Thanks for quick replies.

I am trying to use X1 as FX unit and ideally I want to use as many traktor effects as I can. But with these settings, I am turning on Send1 and increasing the volume fader on returnB, no effects turned on on Traktor, I hear the song twice. Is this expected with "Send" mode on Traktor's Effects settings? Because I can use effects fine on "Insert" mode. But I want to be able to use Parametric EQ section on Xone96 for effects if that's possible.

I also use the xone96 with send/return and traktor. No, you should not be able to hear the song twice with effects off.

the fx unit, when off, just passes what ever audio through to your fx return- It doesn't mute it

So is there a workaround or how is this usable in any ways if I am hearing double?

always have the fx unit on and max wet, only use delay and reverb

all other effects besides the delays and reverbs don't need send and return, the main use case for send and return with effects is to have the delay and reverb tail off after closing the fader for a smoother audio cut off

Not sure if I am asking wrong questions but like I said, if I am hearing the song slightly offset from the song coming from channel2, even without enabling any effects, wouldn't adding delay or reverb on top make it more messy? I understand the idea of tailing but what I don't understand is how people deal with this doubling. I guess it shouldn't be this

I do the FX routing to channel B and keep the line fader down unless i wish to apply FX, which is when i pull the fader up, slowly or quickly depending on the type of FX. Dry/Wet 100% is a must as @lord-carlos already mentioned. The slight offset is unavoidable due to the signal path.

I have my return channel always on full volume.

Maybe it's because I use 3 fx per bank, so they are always on and that is why I don't hear the track again?
