Traktor pro 4 stopped recognizing my controller right after buying the full version

Hello,
I use a Kontrol S2 MK3 controller and a windows 11 Laptop with more than enough processor power and ram. I have always had some compatibility difficulties with traktor pro 3, with driver, audio output and so on that occured on rather regular basis. Today in the morning after updating my Windows PC my kontroller simply stopped working. It lights up after inserting it the first time but then it goes dark and my Traktor pro 3 neither detects it nor any inputs from it.
As a trouble shooting measure I have installed traktor pro 4 and started it in demo mode, and wouldn't you know it, EVERYTHING worked fine like nothing happened, literally plug-and-play. the software reacted seemlessly to my kontroller's inputs and I did not have to change a single setting to get output audio. I thought the Native Instruments team decided to drop the ball on traktor pro 3 and just fixed all of the issues in the new version, so I decided to buy it: "as an update to traktor pro 3".
After the payment went through (which I did online), I started my native access app, pressed open Traktor pro 4 (it was not perviouly available on the menu) and just like magic, everything stopped working and now I have the exact same problems as before. my S2 MK3 controller is neither lit up nor recognized. Worth mentioning that I did not Install anything, on my pc, not even an update to traktor pro 4 or a driver. All it took was finishing the payment process for traktor pro 4 to stop recognizing my controller.
does anyone have an idea what the root cause of this might be?
