Maschine 2 suddenly not recognizing Machine Plus

I'm using my machine plus as a controlled for machine 2. Typically it automatically gets recognized and set up when it is plugged into my computer but today it has not with no noticeable change to cause it.

I tried resetting and rebooting everything, and fiddling with the machine 2 preferences related to hardware but to no avail.

Just tried reinstalling drivers as well.

Tried reinstalling maschine 2, native access, deleting databases, and switching usb ports to no avail.

Tried swapping for a different usb cable, didn't work. It looks like maschine 2 isn't even seeing the plus because it is not showing up in the hardware section of preferences.

If you are you plugging it with power cable inserted, try to remove it (just USB to computer cable plugged in M+)

Tried multiple combinations with and without power cable. Also just tried factory resetting the plus but that didn't work either.

I don't know if this helps but this all began when I was trying to move my Native Instruments folder to my SSD to offload the storage from my computer.

Although the Maschine plus software was working fine for the first few hours after doing this before this issue arose.

Is it not working in both available ways? (Plugging it to the computer without turning it on and opening Maschine on the computer and using the Controller command in M+ Settings)

Btw: have you already opened a ticket with Support? (I would do it immediately anyway, since the response could take time)

Correct it isn't working in any configuration with the Maschine software. It works in stand alone mode.

I opened a ticket with NI.

Have you tried using an usb powered hub to see if something changes?

Also…if you have the possibility, have you tried your M+ on another computer?

Re-reading your posts, I noticed this: “I was trying to move my Native Instruments folder to my SSD”. Did you move also Maschine application to the SSD? Is it an external one?

And “Although the Maschine plus software was working fine for the first few hours after doing this”. Do you mean the software itself isn’t working anymore or just the M+ as controller? (Although I don’t think it’s the software, since you say that you are checking the Maschine 2 preferences).

Last item in the checklist: is your M+ recognized in Controller Editor?

So I did move the Machine 2 application to the external SSD just to keep things organized. Basically 99% of NI content is in C:/program files/Native Instruments. So I think copying that entire folder to the SSD keeps things as simple as possible.

However I did retain the original folder in my C drive for the time being to make sure nothing got super broken. And while checking that nothing got broken I hit this error.

but what I’m saying is I’ve tested the Plus with the copy of Maschine 2 that’s oky C drive and on my SSD drive and neither works, so I don’t think that’s the culprit.

To answer your second question, EVERYTHING was working fine for the first few hours after transferring to the SSD. Machine 2 was reading from it and the plus was functioning as a controller. The software and plus are both still “working” but just not connecting to each other.

controller editor is not recognizing the machine plus.

    A couple of things:

Firstly, it is better to have the Programs (Maschine, Komplete Kontrol, Kontakt, Traktor,…) on the main drive, not external ones (in any case they don’t occupy so much space)

Secondly, in any case, those kind of programs can’t be simply “moved” to other locations. When they get installed they create a net of “links” and “connections” that, once the main folder gets moved, could not be working anymore.

The “move and relocate” procedure is for Libraries (and eventually Expansions), not suited for Programs.

Have a look also at what darkwaves told you, it could be part of the problem.

And…before reinstalling stuff, checking 100 things, recovering previous situation,… I would test the M+ with another computer, in order to rule out it being the problem

Thank you for all the input I appreciate it.

I’m fine with just keeping the libraries on the external drive though I’m a little uncertain how to separate them from the programs. Are all the libraries just in the “content” folder and you would only move that?

when moving the the entire native instruments folder I was careful to reset all pointer links in native access and maschine 2 to hopefully not break anything. But something still could have gotten broken. However it was all working for a lit bit.

Yes, that’s probably why NA gives you the opportunity to choose different directories for the different type of products.

I suppose it was initially still working just because you didn’t remove the older folder, as you said

well what I did was rename the old folder to aNative Instruments. So it was there but nothing should have been pointing to it.

But maybe it was still being referenced somehow

I had the same issue just today…. But I managed to solve it.

If your problem is the same as mine, the culprit is exactly what darkwaves said. In my case, NIHostintegrationAgent decided on its own not only to not work, but also to switch to “Disabled”…

Try to follow step 5 of this article (the same that darkwaves linked)

    https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/4410102990097-My-Maschine-Controller-Does-Not-Start#h_01FSPWYFT84W3YNPZX663QRKJ1

…but if, like in my case, NIHostintegrationAgent doesn’t want to restart, you must add these steps:

Right click on NIHostintegrationAgent, chose Open services, in the window that opens find again NIHostintegrationAgent in the list, right click on it, chose properties and in the new windows under General check if it says “Disabled”. In that case, change it to “Automatic”.

This worked for me…I really hope it’s your same case (and your moving of the folders didn’t ulteriorly complicated it) and that this will solve it 👍🏼
