I suppose that you mean outside of Komplete Kontrol and for the apps. Who knows what the future brings ?

But for now then I am sure that that is not planned. Also that would require a rewrite of a lot of code or a lot of new code or both so that would be a major undertaking so immediately I personally do not see that happening any time soon if ever. Also with respect to Massive X then I think that that that would also require Massixe X to become an app also which it is not it only exists as a plugin at the moment.

The difference between the products that you list and Kontakt is also that Kontakt is major flagship product and not only that then it is used in connection with a lot of library products which generates a lot of revenue meaning that it pays to invest hugely in Kontakt development where as the products that you mention have very few spinoff products sold in connection with the products which in itself suggests that it would never pay for N.I. to invest as massively as you would like into the products you mention. That doesn't mean that it will never happen , again who knows what the future brings ? , and in a few years then maybe AI software programming has gone so far that N.I: can do something like that with the push of a few buttons

Well , if you are going to 'share' Direct Connection' as has N.I. 'shared' the NKS standard (?) then that is most certainly going to change the landscape. And maybe accelerate the Direct Connection for a lot more that Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 7/8

(I wish I knew more about the music equipment/software industry as a whole so I could better predict how N.I. is going to handle this one 🤔)

I'm sure the various announcements will be posted elsewhere, but once they're public I'll post them here as well. That way you don't have to hunt around. And can also ask questions.

This is exciting news, does this mean NI finally tosses Komplete Kontrol in the garbage and NKS Direct Connection becomes the new way forward ?
I know as far as Kontakt 8 and the MK3 they work flawless together.
Are we expecting a major change with all NKS plugins or just NI supported plugins?

    Can’t wait for the news.

It definitely doesn't mean that. We are continuing to develop Komplete Kontrol in addition to Kontakt 8. Stay tuned!

    Here's the Press Release:

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/press-area/music-production/namm-2025/

    Here's the Blog Post:

    https://blog.native-instruments.com/nks-hardware-partner-program/

Have a read, and let me know if you have any questions.

In short, we are opening NKS to 3rd party hardware. Moving forward, companies like Akai, Novation, Nektar and Korg and more will be able to connect directly to Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol.

This will arrive first to Komplete Kontrol, and then later to Kontakt.

It will arrive first as a rather simple integration, and the capabilities will deepen over time.

that wasnt quite the direct connect i was asking about. im interested in my kontrol s61 connecting to massivex etc directly , much like how kontakt does without the need for komplete kontrol software

this announcement only really satisfies new customers who own akai and other branded hardware. i own native instruments hardware i want to know whats new for your existing customers? akai supports play series but maschine+ doesnt?

Totally understand - this was however the Direct Connection news we had planned for NAMM.

It stands to reason that with significantly more hardware now adopting NKS, more products would also adopt NKS, and perhaps things like DC. But we're not announcing any developments there at this time.

I appreciate the expansion of NKS to other hardware partners, and it's a good move commercially. I think we'll have to see how that comes out in the wash.

But it stands to reason that there should probably be greater investment in creation tools.

This would require complete rewrites of the products you mentioned in your first post - many of which are already considered to be on permanent maintenance mode (Battery and Reaktor for certain).

Kontakt 8 is the only interface currently available with Direct Connect and that is only possible with a MKIII series keyboard.

Cannot really see "direct connect" being backported to any other instruments older than Kontakt 8
