Unable to Mark Presets as Favorites in Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8
I know this has been posted before but I’ve unsuccessfully tried the solutions and remain unable to favourite presets from any of my NI products. - Battery 4, Kontakt 8 and Komplete 15 standard. So…
Hi NI Community,
I’m encountering an issue with marking presets as favorites in both Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8. According to the instructions, clicking the star icon next to a preset name should mark it as a favorite and add it to the Favorites folder. However, when I click the star, nothing happens — the star doesn’t turn solid, and the preset isn’t added to the Favorites folder.
Here’s what I’ve done so far to troubleshoot:
1.Ensured all NI software and libraries are fully updated via Native Access.
2.Granted full disk access to Komplete Kontrol, Kontakt 8, and my DAW (Logic Pro).
3.Verified that I have read-and-write permissions for all related folders and files.
4.Rescanned the library database in Komplete Kontrol Preferences.
5.Attempted to use Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8 in standalone mode (outside my DAW).
Despite these steps, the issue persists.
•My setup:
• macOS Ventura 13.7.2
• Native Instruments software Komplete Kontrol - 3.0.0 , Kontakt 8 - 8.0.0 , Battery 4 - 4.2.0, Komplete 15 standard - contains latest versions of NI software
• DAW: Logic ProX 11.1.1
I know others have experienced this issue? Could this be related to database corruption, a permissions oversight, or something else I’m missing? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! There must surely be a fix… TY

Well, you actually already did most of the troubleshooting.
Are you using any kind of antivirus or property list cleaners, like Clean My Mac? Then check this out:
Other than that, did you move any files after installation?
Next step would be to try with a new user account. Do you get the same behaviour there?

Thanks for your response Jeremy. I am really struggling with this now. I have many NI plugins, but I cannot mark/save any preset as a favourite. I don’t have/use any Mac cleaner tool - it’s actually been thinking of getting one to see if it would help with this issue. But in view of your comment I won’t!
No I didn’t move any files following install. And I am the only user on my Mac. I’m not keen to create a new user account as i’d then to go through all the permissions once again.
Thank for your support …I’m actually quite shocked NI haven’t provided a solution for this issue - which clearly also affects other users/customers. I’ve spent a lot on NI products, but have no idea where else to go with this. Is there any way to contact NI directly regarding this serious problem?

The fix would be to figure out what it is on your system that is causing this. It does sound like either a permissions issue or a corrupted database. Since it seems that you have looked at permissions have you tried actually deleting the favorites.db3 which should reset it (path on Mac is '/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Shared/favorites.db3')

This is not a wide spread issue and is system specific. The file could be corrupted, so what @Kymeia mentioned would be the next step. If that doesn't work out, please contact my colleagues here: https://bit.ly/NI_support_Kontrol Looks like they'll need to look into your system more closely.
I would recommend just to try with one product with a new admin just for the sake of troubleshooting, it would confirm/infirm it's an issue with permissions.

Thanks for the suggestions - I think the issue lies in where exactly NI plugins save favourites. Although the various plugins have old favourites, there are no.db files linked to any of them - I’ve even looked through hidden files. And there’s no ‘favorites’ folder connected to any of the plugins. If I don’t know where NI has saved those favorites I cannot make progress.
Can you advise where each of those plugins may have saved the old favorites to? They are not saved anywhere on my Mac as ‘favorites’ or .db files. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks…

Komplete Kontrol favourites are in the location I gave you
I’m pretty sure Kontakt 8 shares that database as if I save a favourite in one it shows in the other, same with Massive X

Actually, the favorites for all products are stored here:
Macintosh HD/Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Shared/favorites.db3
Try to delete or rename this one. Maybe check permissions for this Shared folder too.

Jeremy, thanks for your continued support. When I follow the path you provided I get this
library/application support/native instruments/shared content/sounds - containing two folders FM8 and Massive containing only .ksd files. There is no favorites.db3 file. As I’ve said already, even a deep search of my HD reveals no favorites.db3 file of any type anywhere that is why o asked if it may be stored as something else.I really do specify you and your colleagues b provide as for an apparently simple problem this is proving very difficult. I have full access and permissions, but there is simply no favorites.db /.db3 anywhere on my drive.
Thanks again Jeremy

That is not the path either of us provided. The path is '/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Shared/favorites.db3'
'but there is simply no favorites.db /.db3 anywhere on my drive'
I'm guessing you have never made your user library folder visible. Heres how, do that first, then you will find favorites.db
Which suggests this is one folder you did not change permissions for, so before deleting anything try changing permissions to read and write access first.
