S4 and Traktor 4 Pro – Ozone/Boost clipping

I have always relied on the levels previously and had the Gain knobs down to -3 and then applied gain when inside Audacity.

I've now swapped out for Traktor Pro 4. In the prefs I have auto gain enabled with ozone selected with -3db headroom with the Ozone Maximiser on boost/fast at +3.0db, I even had the 'Gain' knobs down -2 on the mixer. All recordings are done within the S4. My first recording/mix was too loud and was clipping when I opened the recording in Audacity.

Does this Ozone work, should I have the boost tuned on under the 'Main' knob (which is 0).

I might just go back to the old way and turn this off. Can someone help?

Note to devs. Please have the export/print to tracklist as an option to turn off the choices beforehand and maybe save the options after I choose. I am constantly double-clicking the 'X's as I only want 2 choices

Yes the output of the Ozone clips. It doesn’t matter which setting you use, if you drive it hard enough, it will clip.

It’s easy to see if you route T4 into Ableton using Blackhole. You easily can get a +0.4- +0.6 dB reading on the channel. I guess that’s possible because it’s all internal 32 bits bus. But the internal recorder clips too, and it shows you that, and there’s nothing you can do except not drive it too hard.

Now, clipping the output converters could be a design choice to sound louder. Admittedly, you can clip it a fair bit before it sounds dirty. But that problematic for recording.

thanks for your response. Might turn off the boost and pull down the gain/channels and normalise in audacity.
