I can not cue headphones on the Traktor S8

I can not cue headphones on the Traktor S8 while in external mode. I set up my routing through a virtual router by Black Hole to route Traktors individual decks into corresponding tracks in Ableton. I have lost the ability to cue the headphones on every channel. Any help is appreciated.

I expect it will be the same with Kontrol S8 as with other NI All-in-one controllers. It is just a controller with an audio interface - and if you use it with Traktor Pro all mixing has to be done internally within software. As you mix externally with another audio interface (even if it is a virtual one with Black Hole) there is no signal from Traktor that reaches the S8. Consider Traktor as four CDJs in this mode. Mixing and cueing is done outside of Traktor. If I setup my Traktor to external mixing the internal cue buttons light up but have no other effect.

Kontrol S8 features a standalone mixing mode but opposed to a DJ mixer with audio interface like a Xone:96 this requires to disconnect your computer. Therefore you cannot use S8 to control your decks within in Traktor and cannot use the audio interface of your S8 in this mode. It isn't possible to route the single decks to your S8 and mix them externally outside of the software in your S8. Therefore it isn't possible to cue on your S8 in external mixing.

So you are saying you dont know of any work arounds or it is simply impossible to do virtually. If I want full functunality of Traktor and the S8 I will have to physically route the decks to an external soundcard so I can record and manipulate each individual track in Ableton. I have a Presonus 1824c that I think will do the trick. I need some repairs completed on the S8. I have a bad RCA and really need to just service the whole mixer. It could use some new faders. I love this mixer though.

I don't know any workaround and I expect that there is no workaround. Even another interface won't do the trick. You can use your S8 in standalone mixing mode and connect the outputs of your Presonus to the inputs of your S8 to mix and cue but you won't be able to control Traktor with your S8 in any way then. From my point of view what you want to achieve is impossible with S8 at all.

If you route your decks to Ableton Live and from there with an external interface back into your S8 you would have to set your Traktor decks to live input - that would create a loop. You would need a real external mixer for that. Something like a Xone:96, DJM-900nxs2, DJM-A9 or Xone:PX5. But even then you would only be able to cue what comes out of Ableton. But in that case two D2s would suit you better than a S8.
