TP / Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3: How to map Phono Turntables to C & D channels?

Hi,
By default, phono inputs are set to channels A & B which are the default channels for the digital tracks. This is highly inconvenient as it doesn't seem possible to hide A & B channels in Traktor Pro as it takes screen real estate.

My apologies in advance as I haven't tested things further. In order to map the phono inputs to C & D which in turn allows to hide those channels in Traktor Pro, what should be done? Cause it seems that A & B are the only ones that accept a phono input. Traktor Pro does not differentiate Line Input versus Phono Input when selecting what a track deck should control, which means that there is no way to map invariably as I've seen recommended in a separate thread on this forum.

This is a candidate for an update to TP as many DJs still want to use turntables and would enjoy a better implementation in TP4, that is by hiding the channels assigned to the turntables..

Thanks

View of the track deck control selection. Live Input doesn't differentiate between phono and Line Input which leads to think it's not possible to map phono away from its default A & B channels.

It's easy. In the "input routing" just route the desired channels to C and D insted of A and B.

I’ve managed to make this work.

Step 1. Connect turntable to phone A or B.

Step 2. On Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, push shift and ext. button of the channel where you put the turntable.

Step 3. In Traktor Pro 4, go to preferences, select Input Routing section. Assign back the Input Deck A or B where the turntable is connected to the track deck A or B which is now again used for digital music.

Step 4. Select Input Deck C or D and choose the line in A or B where the turntable is connected.
    that should be it!

The hardware has phone preamps only on channels A and B (press SHIFT+EXT to toggle between phono and line).

But then, how does it differentiate between the line input on C versus the phono input on A ?

The inputs are named A B C D, but you can route them to any deck you want. You can route input A to deck D. I think you still have to active the pre-amp by pressing shift + EXT on input A in this case.

Just .. try it. Takes a minute.
