Trouble Achieving Continuous Half-Damper Sustain on S88 MK3 with Yamaha FC3A and Roland DP-10 Pedals

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has managed to get a staggered or half-damper sustain function working smoothly on the Komplete Kontrol S88 MK3. I've tried quite a few things but haven’t been able to achieve continuous control without issues. Here’s a rundown of what I've done and the pedals I've tested so far:

Setup & Configurations Tried

  1. Pedal Mode: Set to Continuous Mode on the S88 MK3.
  2. MIDI Channel: Channel 1, with MIDI Number set to 64 (standard for sustain).
  3. Invert and Swap Settings: Experimented with various Invert and Swap configurations to try to get the polarity and sustain behavior correct.

Pedals Tested:

Yamaha FC3A

  • Behavior: The pedal was recognized but the sustain effect was inverted (sustain active when the pedal was released). Adjusting the Invert and Swap settings didn’t resolve this. Also, it didn't produce a smooth, continuous sustain effect—only basic on/off.
  • Outcome: Only worked as a regular on/off sustain pedal without half-damper functionality.

Roland DP-10

  • Behavior: In Continuous Mode, the DP-10 produced no output in MIDI View, so I couldn’t get any response. However, in Switch Mode, it did register on/off signals, but still lacked continuous sustain control.
  • Outcome: Similar to the FC3A, it only provided basic sustain in Switch Mode without any half-damper support.

Additional Troubleshooting

  1. Calibration: I went through several calibration attempts with both pedals, following the recommended process by fully pressing and releasing during setup.
  2. Firmware & Software: I have verified that both the S88 MK3 firmware and the Komplete Kontrol software are fully updated.
  3. Software Testing: Tested with multiple virtual instruments in Komplete Kontrol (such as The Grandeur) but couldn’t achieve proper half-damper functionality with either pedal.

Looking for Suggestions

Has anyone successfully used either of these pedals (Yamaha FC3A or Roland DP-10) with the S88 MK3 for half-damper sustain? Or are there other pedal models that provide reliable half-damper support on this keyboard? Any insights on settings or recommendations for compatible pedals would be greatly appreciated.
