Why can't NI keep up with Apple updates, especially Silicon Sequoia 15?

I'm getting tired of the time it takes NI to update. I have multiple projects on Sequoia 15 that don't show any of the thousands of instruments I've bought from NI. All my other programs, i.e., Spitfire, EastWest, Toontrack, Omnisphere, Band-in-a-box, etc., work just fine. What is the problem, and when will it be fixed? I won't buy anything from NI until they support my platform.

I assume the new 3.0 upgrade that's supposed to come out later this month should resolve some of your problems. lets cross our finger and hope for the best I have the same problems.

All new M4 macs will ship with macOS Sequoia. ****** is gonna hit the fan if NI doesnt get their products suppoted ASAP

Lots of folks are using Sequoia with no issues around these forums. They are putting themselves in unsupported territory but that is not stopping any one from using it. Not a lot of problems being reported either.

As far as full compliance - the NI product catalog is vast - every single thing has to be tested. If history serves - this will be an early 2025 thing at the earliest.

Conversely - maybe consider gently suggesting to Apple to tap the brakes on changing their entire OS out every 10 months and this whole mess could be avoided.

I'm just stating that I see last weeks M4 mac releases will open the floodgates to a lot of new Sequoia users. A lot of mac users will upgrade their M1s / M2s by christmas.

Nobody can control Apple, they make their own rules, everyone else will have to suck it up. Sucks being a developer but it is what it is.

Floodgates or no floodgates - NI clearly has other priorities - like their own stuff (Komplete 15, Kontakt 8, the upcoming Maschine 3 release etc) to worry about.

As mentioned numerous times around these forums - NI is very aware of Sequoia - and testing is happening - but the speed in which this is completed has literally nothing to do with what Apple is selling or who does what for Christmas presents.

As you may have noticed NI's portfolio is quite extensive so it takes a lot of time testing everything.

I understand that Apple is communicating a lot on all the bells and whistles but it's a general thumb rule in the audio world, it's always better to wait some time before updating your OS. You can find more information here, even if only DAWs are listed for compatibility:

Of course, that's more of a problem if you get a brand new computer with Sequoia on it. It's worth noting that even though not officially supported there are no known major issues with our products on Sonoma. You seem to suggest that something is not working with our products, maybe you can share what exactly and then we can maybe check for other things before it being a compatibility issue.

Thanks, Jeremy. I do know that NI has thousands of instruments… I have many of them. When Apple updates its software, it's usually because of more security. It's just that all my projects that contain NI instruments are now dead in the water. When I open NI, it doesn't show any of my installed instruments. And it's not the first time, either. Again, none of the other plugins I have from different companies are a problem; it's just NI. I do hope you guys fix this soon.

Well, maybe we can do some troubleshooting, it's not necessarily due to compatibility. This way we could get you running before Sequoia is officially supported. Please give more details regarding the issue.

Really it doesn’t- most of those “instruments” are sample libraries for Kontakt, so as long as that is updated to be compatible with Sequoia (assuming it isn’t already), in most cases the libraries should work too. Update Komplete Kontrol, Maschine and Reaktor as well and you have the largest chunk of NI’s “extensive portfolio” out of the way already.

Hard to keep up with a company which is living on the bleeding edge of technology…

If you had enough of this, there is an alternative operating system, which doesn't change things drastically every couple of years.

But, actually, if you want to use audio software, or any professional software, I'd recommend not to upgrade your operating system every time Apple says you should do so anyway. Stability and consistency > new is sexy. In my experience you fare a lot better that way.

Yes! I agree with chk071 on this. If you have a system that you need to work and be reliable, then don't blindly install an OS update every time one comes out.

It puzzles me why Mac users always seem to be so "Pavlov's dog" with Apple updates.

They jump on the update as soon as it's available (or even during beta) with apparently no consideration of the consequences, then when - inevitably - something doesn't work any more, instead of blaming Apple, they go after the third party vendors and blame them. 🤔

It's not new. There's a history of this with Apple and Mac users going back years, and yet it happens every time.

I think it tends to be less experienced Mac users on the whole who do that. Most of us do wait at least a few months before updating and research it thoroughly first. I used to stay a whole OS version behind but more recently that hasn’t really been necessary as the last couple of updates actually didn’t really cause many problems anyway.

What puzzles me more is how many seem to place so much emphasis on “official” compatibility statements when in reality such things are pretty meaningless. I know some companies find they don’t actually need to update anything anyway so just state as far as they are aware stuff is compatible if they haven’t had reports to the contrary and even if testing has been done it’s not like a guarantee that there are no problems, just no problems encountered so far.

Home users I agree, why worry. I’ve upgraded by mistake, and things seem fine, the odd error I do get is exiting certain programs where it exits fine (saves work etc) but still throws up an error and generates a report. Steinberg software being the main culprit, but again I use Cubase and Halion 7 along side Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8 daily with zero problems.

But for a business, they should be waiting to know all software they use is effectively certified to work on the new op system.

Its very usual from my experience for businesses to be on much older op system versions, every bit needed to be tested on a non live system first, and there’s always that one bit of software that’s really useful but won’t work on newer op systems.

well for every Mac user there will come the time to upgrade their hardware. And yes you could maybe store the new computer away for a year but you can also use it and live with possible issues that might come up. I ordered a new Mac mini M4 and keep my fingers crossed. 🤞🏼 I just keep the old computer until everything runs smoothly.
