overkill for most of music applications.
great if you can afford it, but you don't need all that for DJing or music production, that would be too much also for Jacob Collier haha

what’s t the over kill or not needed for music production maybe I can save some money

well put it that way, if you buy that Mac mini, for sure you will not have problem making music, you are able to have big projects in you daw with a lot of plug ins and tracks.
but you will be very comfortable also with,
[ 10 or 12 core CPU, the GPU doesn't really matter for music usually, but if you edit video o play video games maybe consider that, 32 gb unified memory, about the storage I'd go with 2Tb and maybe buy an external hard drive. ]
again, look around, on YouTube etc. inform yourself before buying.

got my M4 Mac Mini and a 4k MSI monitor on Friday to replace my 2009 iMac..
First issue I had was iTunes has been replaced with Apple Music, think I’ve sussed how to use my old iTunes library.
Second issue I now need to upgrade Ableton Live 9, oh well there’s always Traktor Pro 2.. huh found Native Access and my licence isn’t listed. Added it, registered it but can’t download it.!
This upgraded Mac is going to cost me more now with updating software.Daren’t open Photos library for fear of it saving in a ‘newer’ os and not opening on my old 2015 MacBookPro..

I don't expect it to be an issue - but Traktor Pro is officially supported only on M1/M2/M3 right now. Was surprised that official support of Apples M3 chips was just added in Traktor Pro 4.1. Although it worked without issues on my MacBook Pro M3 Max before that. I expect it will be same with M4.
Traktor Pro 2 will not work on Apple Silicon: TP2 was last supported with macOS 10.13 – M4 Macs are macOS 15 only until macOS 16 will be released. It is quite a big leap from an 2009 iMac to a 2024 Mac mini.

I just got the Mac Mini M4 Pro entry model with 24 GB ram and 512 GB SSD. Since it comes with Thunderbolt 5 I also purchased the new OWC 2TB Envoy Ultra External SSD (thunderbolt 5) on Black friday/week sale and will use that for the Mac Homefolder and all 3rd part applications (except for apples own ones which only use approx. 1.5 GB). This way I got it way cheaper than if I had bought extra storrage with apple and I now have an external SSD disk that runs at lightning speed (Last I checked it Read: 5850 and Write 5100) as my homefolde and applications folder :)

that's claver! you know what, I am always scared to install applications in an external drive, back in the days I corrupted a HD doing that. (btw so you can make fun of me, I studied IT and cybersecurity and yet I can F**** stuff like that haha)
anyways I am more worried about the system files, those are a pain in the neck!

damn.. thats a 400 bucks external SSD and its BIG! you'll have to lug that around everywhere you take your laptop. don't get me wrong, i'm thinking in a similar solution. but my idea is to have the 1TB internal ssd so I can DJ from, and have an external SSD only at home for all the rest

any information on the Native instruments application side of things would be appreciated…
i suppose the first question would be does the Native access work? any issues on that front?
secondly all the working appications either standalone or as a plugin would help us determine if we are best waiting
