Kontrol S4 jog wheel slip? (EDIT: sticker drift)
I spent an hour or two playing with an S4 Mk3 this morning and observed an odd behaviour with the jog wheels in TT mode.
When juggling a kick snare break, without removing my fingers from the top of the jog wheel, starting at 9 o'clock and rewinding from around 2 o'clock, I found each time I brought the wheel backwards, I had to drag it a little further to return to the down beat.
It seemed to do it on both jog wheels.
The light guide round the edge appeared to return to the same position, maybe the same for the logo on the top of the jog wheel, but after a few juggles I would find my hand/wrist needing to move further back in order to have the forward motion in front of the beat.
Is that normal behaviour, or might it be explained by a configuration setting or the performance of the laptop the S4 was connected to?

This behaviour has been observed and judged as a bug in several past threads, and not just in TT mode.

Thank you. Fingers crossed it's something NI are able to patch.
If I pop back to the store I will try and check which firmware the S4 is running.

I think this has been a problem since forever and, regardless of NI's potential ability to patch it is, in my estimate, unlikely to get fixed. Check the forum threads for 'sticker drift'.

Thank you.
I might have to wait for the Mk4 then. 😥
Looking at some of the past threads, some seemed to think it was fixed at one point in Traktor Pro 3 but appears to have reoccurred in TP4. I'm curious to see if it might be more of a latency issue with the laptop, than the S4Mk3 firmware, so will pop back to the DJ store with my laptop when I have a chance.0 -
@zephry mentions trying different RPMs, disabling ticks and adjusting tension.

FWIW, I did try amending those while I was playing with the S4Mk3 this morning and none unfortunately seemed to make a difference. It also seemed like the tension is not applicable to TT mode, I haven't read the manual yet, but I presume that's intended behaviour.0 -
Made another visit and spent some time testing. The platter is not drifting, it's my fingers slipping a small amount each direction change. Perhaps I just need to get used to the shinier surface on the S4 jog wheels.
Has anyone tried adding textured 3M (or other quality) vinyl sticker to the platters?0
