New Kontakt 7 User Needs Help!

Hello All,

I am brand new to Kontakt and my Yamaha YDS-120 Sax. I have been trying to get the sax connected to Kontakt with little success. The goal, is to use KT through which to play the sax, output to an external mixer and practice with prerecorded tracks. I am hoping to use the Mojo 2 Sax VST into KT. While I get it added, I am unable to get KT to recognize it let alone hear any type of sound. My computer does recognize when the sax is connected, but again no signs of life. Can someone assist?

That would be much appreciated!

Kontakt is a sampler and you do not “connect” instruments thru it.

You load virtual instruments into it and record midi data into a digital audio workstation.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the use case here.

    Hi VP,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have loaded my digital sax into KT as a virtual instrument. That part has been successful as I can see in recognized in KT when ever the audio and midi settings. But when I open KT, I can see it, but when I attempt to send information via midi, there is no indication info is being sent out received. The use case is, instead of recording, is to output the sound to headphones. First that help?

Would need more info - and a screencap of the audio/midi settings in Kontakt. Here are my audio settings:

And my NI S61 keyboard handling MIDI input to Kontakt

Your instrument in Kontakt must match the channel and cc numbers of your wind controller.

The channel number is probably 1, but if you set it to omni in the Kontakt instrument header it will receive any channel.

The default cc number sent by your WC is probably 2. In Kontakt, R click the volume slider in the instrument header, then click MIDI Learn. Then blow some notes on your sax. That should make the connection.

I've made some comments on setting up a wind controller on another thread which you might find useful.

So I've been able to get input signals from my YDd controller through mojo 2 installed in kontakt 7, thank you for that help. What still plagues me is while I can see input activity and hear sound, it is only the sound the controller makes. There is no change in it's indicating the VST sax sound isn't working. Any thoughts on that, please?

    Cheers

If you're properly connected, the volume slider (1) should move when you blow your instrument, and there should be an associated reading in the volume monitor (2).

Did you do MIDI Learn as I suggested? Occasionally it doesn't work, so you have to make the connection in the Browser>Automation>MIDI Automation (have a look at the manual). If you open this tab, and blow your instrument, you'll get a red flash next to the cc number that your instrument is sending. Drag that cc number to the slider you want to automate. R Click on the slider afterwards, if you've done it properly it should say "Remove MIDI Automation" and the cc number you've assigned.
