s5 kontrol - Traktor output but retain fader use into ableton question
I got the s5, a gigaport ex and what I want to do is output the sound of the 4 decks to 4 decks in ableton.
What I want to do is have the audio output of the decks controlled by each channel fader, going into ableton in order to run some effects and instruments.
I also want to retain cue control per channel from the s5 and have it outputting on the headphones plugged into the s5.
Basically use ableton as an effects unit. I do not have an external mixer to run the channels to that with the gigaport ex.
I will use another midi controller to control the sound of the effects on live but I think there must be something more to be done there more than just selecting input channels and using link?
So far what I have done:
I have installed blackhole in order to use it as a virtual audio card. For some reason with my yesterdays attempts I got the fader of each channel to control the volume out to the 4 audio tracks on ableton (not mapped in ableton, all done with the normal mode of the s5).
The issue I was facing was my audio cue that I was trying to figure out.
I decided to recompile blackhole in order to get less channels as traktor was crashing when I was selecting it as an output. I limited it to 8 channels.
Today for some reason I only get 12 outputs on the output routing on traktor even though my aggregate device has 28.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong or even if this is the correct way to do this but I cannot figure it out.
What i am getting now is not able to control the channels with the faders (but crosffader goes from a to b) and headphones are controlled by the cue vol knob.
Hope this made some sense.

The 12 outputs limitation is a but. AFAIK they are working on it.
If you want to run each channel into ableton, you will need to use external mixing mode.
In external mixing mode you can't use the channel faders after .. version 3.11.1 I think. They removed that "feature" as they say it was a bug. So you have to run TP 3.10? Maybe you can find the old release notes.I can't see any way you can get cue on the controller + external mixing mode to work.
Get a 2x Traktor D2 + Xone k2 and do all the volume and EQ stuff in Ableton.

hm it might have been that I was using traktor 3 yesterday so it must be an older version.
So I should be setting up 4 black hole outputs on traktor, then what do I setup in live?
Is my cue out coming from traktor or live?
Would bitwig provide more flexibility on that front?

indeed the older version that I got installed is 3.5

My bet is that you have to set up a way to CUE via ableton/bitwig.
I can't answer the other questions.

would the physical buttons for cue be used in lthat case?
Do I need to put the s5 to midi mode and work from that? Does a full traktor midi mapping for the s5 exist somewhere?

Switching to midi mode will probably disable the displays.
Maybe you can map the cue buttons in Traktor, to send a midi signal OUT, that you then can map in Live. Maybe @Sûlherokhh knows more possibilities.
Getting another device for controlling Live + eq + trim + volume etc. and just use s5 for control would simplify things, and would also work on newer versions of Traktor.

I already have a basic midi controller to control ableton, the only thing in question was where the headphones go and how to cue the channels.
if right now i select the s5 for the live output I do not have the option to cue things from live(or i am doing something wrong which would be a live q and not a traktor one i guess)
To use the midi controller (or even a keyboard) for live is not an issue, the traktor cue is my main issue 😂

I don't know the first thing about Black Hole and Ableton, sorry i can't help out. I can confirm that screens don't work in MIDI mode. In standard mode, the S5 is the only NI controller they never bothered to add any overmapping capabilites to as well… bummer.

I was afraid that would be the case to be honest!
I have managed to make the sound output on live and to have the cue per live channel. Basically like a normal 4 channel mixer.
Now
Is there a midi mapping for traktor for s5?
I think I will have to either choose screens and external midi controller for it or everything internal and no screens. I am not used on screens to be honest so for now the solution is easy. especially if i can make those screens dim a bit.
But it all relies on midi mapping the s5 which I am not sure I got the patience to do so
