Hello there

I received my Komplete Kontrol S88 today.

I plugged it in, updated everything,

started Cubase, I enjoyed how it worked.

I turned off everything for a lunchbreak and when I returned, nothing was working:

  • Cubase cannot start (crashes) when the keyboard is on.
  • If I start Cubase, and after turn on the keyboard, no midi message is received and Kontak/Komplete Kontrol cannot connect properly (none of the libraries show up on the keyboard display. ("No Instrument/Effect Loaded" message on the display of the keyboard/"No results found"if I pres the Browser button.
  • Standalone Kontakt cannot connect to keyboard, ("No Instrument/Effect Loaded" message on the display of the keyboard/"No results found"if I pres the Browser button.
  • Same with Komplete Kontrol, however the Kontroller menu lists the keyboard

Resetting the keyboard and reinstalling the Hardware Connection service: no result.

HELP!!!!!

You could be effected by the USB-C problem that is with some computers :

    Quote Matthew_NI,Product Team, October 1 :

    Problem:

Some computer chipsets made between2020 and 2023 have a known USB-C error that can't be fixed. This can cause sporadic problems with USB-C peripherals like the Kontrol S MK3, including connection failures, freezing, or issues with firmware updates.

    Solution:

If you experience these issues, try using a USB-C hub between your Kontrol S MK3 and your computer. This can help avoid the problem and ensure a stable connection. This is critically important during firmware updates, as data loss could cause broken firmware. Make sure the hub supports both power and data transfer.

Also cables must be high quality cables (apparently then not even the one distributed with the keyboard is guaranteed to work in all cases.)

Otherwise then please get in touch with N.I. support here: Komplete Kontrol Support so that they can check everything before forwarding it to the hardware department if necessary.

Not surpeisingly your solution was very close. My computer (HP Z440) does not have USB-C, so I use USB-A 3.0 with an adapter. When I plugged the keyboard to another USB port, evrything went back normal. So it seems there is an issue with some of the USB ports on my machine.

    Thanks for your help.
