Problem with installing Guitar Rig 7 via Native Access (1) Legacy
Hi,
I had GR7 Pro installed a month ago, but each time I use it, it starts to swell the RAM after a while, until it reaches up to 8,5 GB RAM and my DAW freezes or crashes, the CPU is over 2,5 times more than my DAW (Reaper) is using. (I only use it on one single track)
I guess there's some memory leak or so?
I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon, with Yabridge/Wine, which runs the Guitar Rig windows version in a virtual windows environment on Linux, does the job correctly.
(It's the only way to get it running on Linux, as NI doesn't offer a native linux version yet.)
See my tutorial for GR on Linux:
https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/35259/how-to-install-guitar-rig-7-on-a-linux-system-tutorial
So I thought maybe something went wrong in the installation process, so I decided to reïnstall it. (I uninstalled it first and deleted everything on my HD that has to do with GR or NI)
In Linux, the Native Access 2 does not run, the older version does.
Anyway, I tried installing Native Access 2 first to be sure: still no possibility. The program installs and runs, but then gives an error that some dependencies need to be installed.
It didn't state which dependencies. It didn't allow me to do anything except to close the window. There was no option to install anything else. (tried several times)
Then I tried again with the older Native Access 1 Legacy. (the trick that worked last month)
The program runs and shows my account with all the details and 'Guitar Rig 7 Pro' status: 'Repair'.
When trying to 'fix' it in order to download/install, it gives the error that "a broken installation has been noticed" and I have to "relocate" the folder where I want to install.
No matter what folder I select, anywhere on my disk, it gives an error: "The path is invalid".
I guess my Guitar Rig adventure stops here? Or is there any other possibility where I can get a download link for GR7Pro in order to install it manually myself?
Any help would be appreciated!

I made it working again.
I previously made a back-up of my whole .wine-folder. With all the previously installed GR7 files.
I placed the whole folder back (couple of GB) and then I could restart GR, however with the popup that I needed to activate with my licence.
I reïnstalled Native Access 1 Legacy and could do so via that program. So tip for Linux users: if you ever get it installed: make a back-up of your wine folder, as you cannot install GR a second time anymore afterwards.

Can't speak for what NI might say - but GR7 is not supported under Linux or in any virtual environment to my knowledge. Would be up to them to decide if they could assist on this scenario.
And Native Access v1 is now retired.
I can confirm that GR7 works fine on a standard Windows install and so does the current version of Native Access.VP

Yes, I'm aware that it's not distributed for Linux users.
However, it works perfectly. There are plenty of other linux users who use NI plugins through virtual environments.
If a native Linux installer would be available aside Windows and Mac, that would really be awesome.
Most prominent plugin companies that take their customers serious do that. (Such as U-HE)The Linux world is currently quite booming with a lot of creative producers. There's a lot of audio stuff made for this market in the past 10 years. It's time for NI to add their (strong) mark to it too.
NI would really benefit from this. And lots of Linux users are willing to pay for quality, if it runs natively and stable on their system, without having the need for virtual environments.Aswel, many people who are now still using Windows, can then finally use their beloved NI-plugins under Linux and make the switch to be independent from the OS.
